If I live in Virginia, and buy a truck in Georgia (from a private individual), Can I transport it home ?? and if so, how. I know I will need to put insurance on it (probably thru OOIDA).

Glen,
You can do it the same way you done the Kenworth and use a trip permit to get it home. Call your insurance agent and see if they will cover you since at that point you are not for hire. State Farm has done it for me several times.

Thanks ..... I talked with DMV and you're right on .... a trip permit will do what I need. I was unsure how the other states would look at it. I'm looking at using OOIDA for insurance.

from past quotes I would say I would never use ooida for insurance.most every quote I got from other providers was at least 1 or 2k cheaper than ooida.

nothing against them I am just saying.

I have to agree .
I have never got a good rate with OOIDA for my truck insurance,

yet they have a very good rate for Occupational accident .and are offering an automatic deduction strait from my business bank account.

As for plates, I've had the seller send the title beforehand so I could get Ohio temp tags.

I've sold a few vehicles to people from Michigan (where apparently it's standard practice to simply drive without plates when buying a vehicle). I've always insisted that unless they wanted to transfer the title first, that they needed to get Ohio temp tags, since it would still be titled to me when they got stopped for no tags in Ohio.

You can transport a car to your home or SoS office without plates in Michigan with limits but you must have insurance and have a title with you in the car.
