More troubles

More truck troubles or the joy of being an Owner/Operator. This time the transmission started dropping out of gear when we decelarated. It was raining. It sort of cleared up when things dried out. Took it to the Freightliner in Albany, NY. They said that it was in the J3919(I think that is it) circuit. It connects all the computers in the truck. None of them were speaking to each other, kinda like congress acts. It turned out to be two frayed wires along the frame rail in the back of the truck. They were part of the ABS system. Had them fixed and all is now hunky dorey, at least for this week.. You all know how it goes, just when things are going good your truck bites you. I think it is so you always remember who is in charge. Layoutshooter

So is this one of those things caused by wear/tear or is it possibly caused by the chemicals on the road this past winter? Any ideas? Glad you are okay!

We just had one of those got ya's! We pulled into a Petro for fuel truck running fine got our fuel started the truck ran for about 15 seconds and dies. Never done that before! Will not start Bob messes with this and that and determines he thinks it is a sensor. Call the local Cat dealer and they only work on busses, call Freightliner they can get to us in about 4 days. Now what? Bob keeps fussing with the connections and finally gets the truck to start so we take off for a shop that works on Cat motors and they can get us in right away. Thought we were going to lose our load but in about six hours, $560.00 dollars later, a new sensor we are ready to roll again. Not really how we had our day planned but felt lucky we were on a load that was not straight through and we could get it fixed right away.
You just never know when something is going to happen and you will need your extra emergency repair cash.

We were on a straight through load but limped it in. The rain had stopped so the connections worked a little better. It is normal wear and tear. I think it is a shame that wires are not protected better than they are. If I were to build a truck I would not run wires against the frame rail. I would use plasitc pipe for conduit to protect them better. I would also use double thick insulation. But, what do you expect for trucks that cost half a zillion dollars? Quality workmenship?
