As if tractors and straight trucks didn't already have enough competition...

HOLLAND, Mich., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- USF Holland, a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide Inc. , announced today the launch of a new Guaranteed Window Delivery service. With the new service offering, customers can request four levels of window precision to meet their time-specific delivery needs:

-- Single-Hour - For deliveries within a one-hour time window (e.g., between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on a specific day).

-- Multi-Hour - For deliveries within a multiple-hour time window (e.g., between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on a specific day).

-- Single-Day - For deliveries on a specific day that is different than normal delivery standards (e.g., within normal business hours on the second day beyond normal delivery schedules).

-- Multi-Day - For deliveries that must be made within a multiple-day window (e.g., between normal business hours Wednesday through Friday on specific dates).

Shipments using the new Holland Guaranteed Window Delivery services arrive on time -- not early, not late -- and receive priority handling and visibility. All four levels of service are backed with the Holland standard money-back guarantee.

Customers can use Holland Guaranteed Window Delivery services to reduce charge backs, improve vendor scorecard performance, and manage inventories and production costs with precision. These services also take the guess work and costs out of installations, distributions and other projects.

"Guaranteed Window Delivery expands upon the Holland guaranteed and expedited delivery service portfolio that is already second to none in the industry," said Keith Lovetro, President and CEO of YRC Regional Transportation. "When customers need speed and precision in their supply chains, Holland continues to provide a variety of options to meet those needs."

Anybody who has been an expediter for more than 90 days has probably carried a load from a YRC, ABF, SAIA, AVERITT, etc, terminal. Not quantum leap there, but....

The point is that shippers are looking for ways to cut cost.

Better planning via logistics will allow them to schedule those two skids for transport inside a 53' van that happens to be headed toward the final destination.

Logistics planners will help companies to schedule ahead so they will less likely to require expedite services. It will reduce depending on good old Bob Franks working inventory control who always waited until the bin was empty before he made arrangements to restock.

Recently, I have even witnessed a change in expedite delivery times by way of allowing a solo van two days to deliver a 980 mile load and three days on a 1500 mile run. Those loads came through logistics companies and a 53' van was not available.

For a carrier to make this kind of announcement is like them saying....hey new policy...we are going to do our job, starting tomorrow, and get your product to you as promised...it is something they should have been doing all along.....

Yes we all do the ones you mentioned either because they messed up or thier custoner wants it Friday instead of Monday....they can't afford to put 2 pallets on a 53 footer and drive it out to BFE Kentucky or where ever not by a guy getting paid by the hour or even mile...so thats where we come in....

Chappy, seems like that is kinda "woe is me" tinkin. You can look at it as competiton or, opportunity. (glass half empty - glass half full) Because there will be many opportunities that they simply can't cover. Ya jes hafta let em know ya can help out and communicate equipment locations. Is is easy? Noooo! Does it pay off to choose between cometition or opportunity?? Yesss!

Jes maybe there are not too many trucks out there, it's jes yer business attitude that causes ya to count some trucks a couple three times.

thanks for the info.
good stuff.

i think it more like an marketing brochure then anything else.
not one word about cross ducking ,or the luck of it ,
WHSEing your goods till the Del. window ,
exclusive use of the trailer ,
on time pu,
reduced rates ,
over head cut,
or the charge for that spacial Expedite service.
when large LTL Co. all over are having such a hard time ,i can't see how they can cut rates ,or increase capacity .

maybe good will come out of this statement for all of us.
one must ask : why ?, and why now ?

Moose.

yeah Col....these LTL chaps are into thier own dog fight trying keep what business they have...by offering premium service they CAN'T provide....hence thats where WE pick up the slack....theres no way on this green earth they can afford to send a 53 or for that matter a pup trailer to Timbucktoo and make any money...but WE the CV can....2-3 skids at maybe not top buck but a liveable rate...
Theres no way these OTR or LTL carriers have money to buy straights or cubes/vans to deliver what they are offering...they'll have to contract it out....

My glass is half full....

moose..you get out of KC??? I got out monday morning...

Moose, i'm sure there was plenty of planning and coordination with other carriers BEFORE those type services were offered. Ya jes can't wake up one day an decide yer gonna provide "pie in the sky" with your assets, no matter how big you are. Very unlikely to happen, unless it would be in limited/key markets. Those of you that still figgure ya don't have to "cooperate and graduate" to be successful, have a very frustrating life ahead.

Oh, and about the lower rates these days - Those that are, or have to require the buck to buck an a quarter to run better give your carrier your minimum rate, an if it's over the going rate these days, jes put'r in the wind for home - you'll be a lot more comfortable waiting there. By all accounts.
