Head across the river to Stillwater, MN. You can take Wi. 35 (exit 1) north through town to Houlton, Wi. and then Wi. 64 west across the river to Stillwater or take I-94 west to Mn. 95 north (first exit immediately after crossing the river. Stillwater is an old lumber/river town. Main street (Mn. 95) is lined with restaurants, specialty shops, art galleries etc.

My wife asked me what I would do if alone and driving a van.

I mentioned a library to read newspapers and odd magazines I might otherwise not come across.

This time of year there ought to be outside festivities along any riverfront/ park area.

I might be lonely, but I wouldn't be bored.

Times like that are when the book "1000 Places In America To See Before You Die" is worth it's weight in platinum, because it's full of oddball and out of the way places that you'd never know about - and some really cool festivals. Includes addresses, phone numbers, hours, prices, and dates, if applicable.
Lots of great food in there, too! ;)

No kiddin'. Been through there Thursday evening. I have never seen so many vans sitting there. Needless to say, I only stopped for a shower and a nap.

I saw a fair number of vans at the Flying J in Memphis last time I was there. Around Minneapolis-- can't say for sure because I never hang around there long. I can say, like some others, that if you're in a van and you have nothing to do and you're bored, it's lack of imagination and not lack of opportunity that's the problem.
