I am not sure if this belongs here or not, but it isn't politics and it isn't controversy so I'll put it here , if it needs moved, feel free to do so.

If any have you have watch Discovery Channels "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe as host, you will enjoy this. Its fun, crude and very much to the point. PLEASE watch all 20 minutes, don't shut it off and think you know what the out come is. This is 20 minutes that is worth watching. Laugh at the 1st part, but think about the rest.........Enjoy

If he had to do any of those dirty jobs for a living, he`d know what work was. Because he doesn`t he has time to be philosophical, and expound to us lesser humans. I didn`t take your advice, and watched the first five or more minutes, and then when I was ready to fall asleep, I advanced the video, and the end result for me was ho hum! He said nothing that any working guy doesn`t already know. But he, like all higher up media twits will still have a job tomorrow, and they will still expound ad naseum.

You missed the whole point of what he was saying. You really need to watch it from start to finish and take your head out of the class envy way of thinking.

It was well spoken and made good points but edited and taken without full context would not have made the points as well. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting it to be but was good none the less.

I still think it was only one media ego doing his take on a very complex problem. He failed to hook me n the first 5 minutes, to watch 20 minutes. Sorry. 20 minutes is tooo long.

Not so Prof. He does a lot of narration work, and probably would still be employed in an executive capacity by Discovery. I have nothing against the guy, and actually like him as a performer. Dirty Jobs is far from one of my favorite shows, and Mike Rowe is not on my must attend lecture speakers list. What irks me about the media types is that they have the stage, can easily be quoted by the hair brained media, and they do expound on their cause, their political position or whatever. Sean Penn, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon to name a few. If I have a question, or am looking for an opinion, with some depth to it, I wouldn`t be reading quotes or opinions from a tv personality, or mediocre movie actor. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't walk across the hall to listen to susan sarandon or many of the others. In this case, Mike Rowe shows himself to be well spoken and intelligent with his mind in the right place. You can't watch the first few minutes and the last few minutes and get the full impact of what he said. I'm afraid with such a strong negative predisposition it's unlikely to get what the rest of us are getting though.

What I liked was he was saying how he feels not how we should feel.

I watched it again, and you are right on, and he was not "preaching at us!" Just telling us how he felt, leaving each of us to feel as we do.. and we can see that hear, well at least from those who watched it all...

I am in the middle of reading Atlas Shrugged for the 2nd time, you'd be amazed that while I thought i got it the 1st time, i am understanding it sooo much more this time...

Atlas Shrugged is awesome right now I am listening to her book "The Fountain Head" I have read it and now am listening to it. It is as long as Atlas Shrugged. Both very good books.

louixo writes about celebs expounding about their favorite views, either political or religious. Have you noticed that is what often happens on this forum? For example an O/O writes about his 10 year old CV with 2 million miles on it. He has had to replace the right front wheel bearing assm 4 times and the left one only 1 time and he wonders what is the diff. Someone writes that the diff could be that the right front wheel hits more rain gutters, curbs, etc than the left wheel. Or, there is more weight on the right due to the angle of the road. Logical answers. Then you get the jokes about the guy carring too many chips and Fritos in the front seat. That's OK. Then you'll get the guy who sez it's a union conspiracy that makes the assembly people make the wheel nut too tight or too loose because that particular van will be sold eventually to a Republican, or some such odd ball idea. This kind of weirdo will always have their agenda to push be it political, religious, or even the weather.

It certainly gives you something to think about. If you only listen to part of it, the full message will not come through. Thanks for posting this.

Because of the urging of so many, I watched the entire tape. Sorry, I still am not changing my opinion much. He was obviously speaking to some sort of seminar in Silicon Valley. His big pronouncement in my mind is the same thing my father taught me growing up, which is in so many words "if you want the rewards, do the job, and do it right". I think there would have been more validity in his analysis, if it came from how the 60 million dollar pig farmer he mentioned looks at the work ethic, not from a media guy who gives his all for a tv show, once a week, and then feels he is a qualified speaker on the topic. It was like him reading an essay that he wrote. The ideals are there, but the substance is not. Again, just my opinion. There was nothing wrong with his unoriginal thinking. He said something of value, and that`s as far as it goes for me, and it was still 20 minutes too long, of celeb presentation, to an audience, which is what he does for a living...performs.
