As My #1 sons says to me...."Dad it sucks to be you".....what an azz wipe your kids can be....LOL

anyhow thankfully I have good genetics in the family....

I sincerely wish you the best.....Ken aka OVM

Thanks for the well wishes. You also had your medical challenges too. I was a smoker too like you and that really causes a lot of medical issues. Just keep up with the yearly check-ups. Get yourself tested for diabetes often and keep an eye on your heart health. You are one step ahead of me on the weight loss. I really need to drop 100 pounds. I am eating barely half of what I used to eat and I only dropped 9 pounds. I'm beginning to wonder if my weight gain ten years ago was pathological. What really scares me is knowing I was driving around all those years with two blood clotting conditions. Driving and blood being thick is not a good combination. My cage has been rattled a little bit over this. Where I used to run out of the house like a wild bull with a cup of coffee and a 2 day 2200 mile load; I can't seem to get my bravado back. Only time will tell. Are you happy with Medicare so far? I have my lifetime SSA credits and will also get Medicare when I hit 65. Most of the expenses in your golden years are related to medical costs. Medicare covers 80 percent of that. It's not as generous as Canada is, but it's definitely cheaper than purchasing a policy on the open market right now. I am up to 500 dollars a month in just doctor visits, blood tests, and medications (that is what is costs to merely maintain my current medical issues). If I had a healthcare policy with a 500 dollar a month premium, I would break even or even win if I had to go to the hospital anytime throughout the year.

I am so messed up in my lungs (doc says they are fine) that the last time I smoked a full cigarette two years ago, I got sick for 24 hours. I mean sick enough to have to lay down for an entire day. I don't know why this happens when I try to smoke (and believe me, I loved to smoke my pack of cigs each and every single day). My doctor says that it's a good thing cigs get me sick, but it's not normal. I still crave a puff every now and again...that is until I remember how sick the last few puffs made me. I don't eve enjoy food like I used to. I used to be able to eat two large pizza's, 12 chicken wings, and a two liter of Pepsi. I can barely eat a medium pizza in 1 day these days. Food, soda, and cigs were my three drugs of choice on the road. If I ever do drive again, I'm going to save so much money by not eating every minute. lol

I hope each and every one of you think before you do anything. One slip, one fall, one accident on the freeway/side street can change your life forever. Please have a plan in place for if you ever become disabled and can no longer work. It is not a peasant thing to talk/think about, but it can happen to any one of us. I have a very strong attachment to this industry...despite the fact that I an no loner able to participate in it. I wish there was some way I could do something. I want to work, but I have to sit with my legs elevated all day, and there aren't many places that will accommodate this. I want to thank Lawrence and all of the admins for putting up with me all these years. I know I generate a lot of controversy, but that has also sparked a lot of spirited debate about our industry. I really love all of you guys. I loved driving. I just have to let it go for now. Any how, if you guys don't see me around, you will know why.

Blizz,

Thanks for the post and your heartfelt thoughts.

I'd encourage you to continue on, we'd hate to see you leave. I've been off the road myself for years and find that I'm still able to share my experiences and help others.

So please plan to hang around and share. :)

I'm working on a plan now where I can drive one day and then rest for a day and so forth. To give you context into how my leg affects me. I went to see three doctors on Wednesday for a total of three hours out in public. This included sitting in a car for 30 minutes, walking for 20 minutes, and then sitting inside the respective doctors offices for the rest of the time. My pan level was completely nonexistent the entire time. But once I got home and took my shoes off, the pain came. I was in pain all of Wednesday night, and I am still in some pain. I had to double up on my pain meds yesterday. If I can work one day and then rest in a hotel room/bunk for 24 hours the next day, I might be able to do this part time and support myself. I want to drive and work again. I want to fight. It just gets hard sometimes when I let the pain scare me back onto the couch. I will let you guys know what happens. If I never drive again, I want to start a non-profit organization for disabled people. I want to spend the rest of my time on this earth doing something positive for other people. Thanks for all of your support.

Thank you for your support Lawrence. I know I am a pain in the behind sometimes and with all of the On Call stuff. I really enjoy having the privilege to post and participate in the discussions on this site. Your kind words are greatly appreciated.
