Michigan Police Download Cell Phone Data

About a year ago, I was downtown Flint, MI stopped at a traffic light when a State Trooper in uniform pulled up next to me...smoking a cigarette in the cruiser while yacking on his cell. It was warm enough our windows were down and I could hear the conversation was of a personal nature. SMH...what an example for young drivers.

she didn't say anything about passwords, but I can tell you from her changing my phones over a few times a yr, she never even asked when she did the data transfers..and that was 2 yrs ago when she was in the stores.....

Thanks chefdennis. Now I just have to worry about Verizon, AT&T, and a whole multitude of cell phone companies being able to invade my privacy. Whew takes a load off of my mind.

I don't know if they can do it without be directly connected to your phone.

Downtown Flint! Home of Halo Burger and Big Johns Steak and Onion! YUMMO!!!! :p

Right now, we may be the murder capitol of the US, but we still have our Halo Burger!!!! It's 10 am and your post has me thinking of the Supreme Deluxe with cheese, a side of onion rings and a cream ale....maybe I'll do that!

Bearing in mind of course that there are only 6 Flint City officers patrolling the entire city now, thanks to Mayor Walling's budget cuts, I still will go to the original right in the middle of the city. Could be fun.

Last week it was reported in Detroit, Flint, and Saginaw news stations that Flint has now surpassed Camden, NJ (the former "number one") in homicides per capita, with more than 100% increase over April 2010. Given the way this area has declined socioeconomically over the last 25 years, I guess it's good to be number one at SOMETHING. Of course, these stats do include the serial killer who has since been caught and the majority of the other murders are NOT random, they involve spurned lovers or gangs literally gunning for one another. There are many parts of inner city Flint I feel perfectly safe in no matter the time of day; there are other areas I wouldn't venture into after dark. There's one spot I avoid at any cost. Cooties. The kind that don't wash off.

I talked to my daughter, she is a low level exc with Verizon and she said they use that same exact machine to transfer everything in a customers phone to a new phone...including text messages and photos....

So these leo's can read everything that is in your phone...as with Turtle, thet=y won't get my phone at all....
And yet, many people who call themselves conservatives or patriots (not necessarily you, Chef, since I don't know where you stood/stand on this issue) parrotted their "...if you have nothing to hide...." line in defending or supporting the PATRIOT Act and other egregious violations of human rights and/or the Constitution. Funny, I guess it all depends on whose ox gets gored.

Just FYI all cell phone companies have these machines. They hook a usb or LAN cord from your phone to the machine, hit a button and whammo all info transferred. No passwords, facial recognition, eyeball scanner or anything just a $6.00 cord. I asked a lawyer friend of mine about the Michigan ordeal, he said if true defiantly falls under illegal search and seizure if no warrant is produced. Only time warrant would not be needed would be a patriot act situation and that friends is a whole 'nother mess.

They won't get my phone without a warrant. I don't even give up my phone at military bases, I just tell them I don't have one. I can say this because the nextel I use as a radio does not have a camera, they are concerned about the cameras, not the phones. I just keep my Droid in my pocket.
