Michigan Medical Claims Assessment Tax

Just wondering how many other Michiganders knew about this new Medicaid tax, and hoping someone can tell me how Medicaid was funded prior to charging me an addition to my health insurance premium. I'm ignorant on the matter.

Guess it's time for me to start paying a little closer attention to Michigan politics. The previous advantage of low taxes for living in the snowbelt is slowly losing its luster.

Well it is amazing that we have a republican governor who wants to go along and tax the crap out of us in order to pay for the mistakes of Lansing. There is a lot more coming - like the license plate increases he and Dillion want to have in place this year, along with some of the user fees talked about - the state is going to see more people leave.

This is a case where we elected a republican who was better than the democrat running and he was a "business man" who everyone thinks are great to run states/the country when they are not. His first move was to put in place one of the most liberal and more or less an extension of Grandholm - Andy Dillion - in the position of Michigan Treasurer, then surrounded himself with experts who were going to tell him how to "fix" Michigan.

This is stupidity at its best, not socialism.

Medicaid is a socialist program. Only a socialist would tax to continue it. We just got rid of one bum governor, now we have to get rid of this one. Problem is, no one any better will run. It is getting harder every day to tolerate this State.

I somewhat agree with you that Medicaid is a socialist program but so are public schools and public libraries. But socialist are not the only one who taxes people, there are a lot of so-called conservatives who love taxing people too.

I have yet seen or heard a real conservative in years and forget what they were like.

The problem is we don't have real conservatives any more, we have what I consider liberals calling themselves as conservatives (like Reagan) and what used to be liberals now showing up as true and aggressive progressives.

Kind of sad that this has swung into a more politically homogenised mix of idiots running the show with some who just entertain people telling others what to think while nothing on the surface seems to be real.

A lot like the Matrix if you think about it.

OK, first I have to ask, why is this in the general forum and not the soapbox?

Second, the Matrix is about a place that has an alternative reality created by a massive computer that feeds off of people (a lot like the democratic and republican parties) and reality is not known except to a few who have escaped the alternate world. There is a saying you can take the blue pill and stay in the fake world or take the red pill and go to the real world. I think the writers had a bit of a political motivation because the blue states seem to be in a world of their own while the red states are in the real world.

They should not be run like a government either. At least not the way we run them now. The deficit spending has to stop. The socialism has to go away. The "nanny state" needs to be dismantled. All current seated elected officials, at least at the Federal level, need to be investigated for fraud and corruption.

No all spending needs to be slowed if not stopped. There is only a couple things that we should be focusing on right now - defense is one.

By "we" I meant the country. I cannot say what individual cites, townships etc. do. That is why I did not include them. Our township is in the black.

Yea they may be in the black but how bad is the county doing and what do they pay for.

I'm all for cutting services from the feds, which means cutting regulations and eliminating those departments that were not around 170 years ago. Do we really need a department of children's computer safety or the department of education?

not really.

I watched a heart wrenching show about school food programs that allow students to get a meal on the weekends, the problem is (beside them profiling a wealthy area where the average income of the parents is something like $500k) that in the past when people were really starving, they were better educated and better equipped for life than any of today's students. I'm just saying ...

The federal government has no real business in anything outside defending this country and we haven't been attacked by a country since 1941, so there is an awful lot of money that can be saved.

The county is a mess. Far too much going out in social services. The roads are being ignored. I have more control over the township than I do the county.
