Well I don't know... it seems that he is either really full of crap or they are actually catching him at something else.
The thing is as I was reminded of this last night that if a van is running under an authority, the authority needs to fill out and file for an UCR. It does not matter if it is a van or a truck, the UCR replaces a lot of state permits and this state had an MPSC for intrastate commerce, which many out of state carriers didn't need.
Maybe that is where he is getting tagged, as part of a check, and the cop is cutting him a break.
OR maybe there is more to the story that the driver(s) are willing to tell, a lot of van drivers seem to be not too honest about issues they encounter - well that is truck drivers too.
Don't know, honestly don't care.
AND if they are taking the phone away, then that would be front page news and the ACLU would be all of that like white on rice. I do not think that is happening at all, and the owner can through the FOIA, request the dash cam video and either take the city to court or use it in evidence to nail the department when contesting the ticket.
By the way, did this guy file a complaint with the MPS or the State of Michigan?
Oh and before I forget, to complicate matters with this d*mn state I live in, there is another set of codes that also apply to commerce and vehicles - BOTH out of state and in state registered. PLUS some cities also have ordinances that also apply, which is bizarre in itself - like Troy's truck and tarp law where it does not matter what state you are from, if you have an open top truck on their roads and it is dirty (like a gravel hauler) it better be washed down and a tarp on it empty or not or you can get a $5000 fine.
