Mexican truck pilot program!

If you feel strongly about this issue contact your US Representative to share your thoughts on this subject.

FYI from OOIDA.

As you may know, despite strong congressional disapproval the DOT announced it will move forward with the Mexican truck pilot program.

Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Congresswoman Nancy Boyda (D-KS) and Congressman Gary Miller (R-CA) are frustrated with the lack of response by the administration to concerns raised regarding the pilot program. They are circulating a letter for additional signatures from members of Congress that will be sent to President Bush. The letter demands he stop the implementation of this program that will grant Mexican commercial trucks and drivers unfettered access to our roads.

Please ask your representative to join Congressman Hunter, Congresswoman Boyda and Congressman Miller in signing the letter.

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! The deadline for submitting this letter is tomorrow.

To contact your representative in the U.S House, call the U.S. Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121, provide the operator with your home zip code and they will connect you with the office of your elected representative.

We can almost be assured that this program will find its' way through the avenues of the Bush halls.

Yea, just listened, to bad they did not clean the ear wax out along with that fried membrame of a president we have.

To bad our government does not listen to the public nor care how much they lower our wages by sending work below border. They need to close the south border, wonder how much drug money goes into political campaigns from Mexico. Common Spence will tell you if 1000 plus Mexicans drivers daily comes over how many illegal's or drugs will find their way. Not even touch the 17-19 cents per mile the Mexicans will work for.

At least as a rule the Mexicans that I have observed (WORK) for their 17 -19 cent, and don't just show up, and expect payment. There in Lays the difference. I'm not advocating Mexican trucks or drivers, but, can't you folks take a hint from all the lazy assed uaw folks that are expediting today, because the lost their GOOD auto jobs because they didn't want to put their coffee down to produce, or, does it take a ballbat.

Hi

Most expediters that I have met mainly complain about not having enough work.It much more fun to be driving down the road with a load on than to be sitting around waiting for a beep.Doesn't it seem strange that they introduced all these new trucking regulations that making it harder for truck drivers at the same time that they were screaming about a drivers shortage? When they need soldiers they lower the entrance standards but when they need truckers they raise them???

I remember listening to a radio call-in program where a Mexican called in and was complaining because the US only shipped half a million jobs to Mexico when we promised to send a million.I don't remember any politicians letting us in on this deal but I can assume that one of our great leaders made this promise. With that said is this just away to keep this promise.

If they (carriers and the government)really wanted to fix the drivers shortage then they could.

Like building more and bigger rest areas.

Creating drop yards outside of major city where OTR drivers could drop the trailor and a city driver take it into the city. This would kill three birds with one stone (1) it would help with traffic congestion and (2) it would give drivers more home time and (3) it would allow the OTR driver to max out his HOS driving time.

Well Chuck, I won't HAVE to drive for 17 cent, but, if a load takes me somewhere I want to go, and have 17 cent leftover, that'll be OK too. Having $170 spending money after I get to the Gulf, is way better'n spending $400 to get there. Agreed?

explain this to me,we all complained when the canadian border was opened, many years ago,has it hurt or hellped us?granted the mexicans are use to making less money, but what is that going to have to do with hauling freight.the more the fly by night companies materialize, the more the need for expediting, the loads have to get there, and time is the important factor, just look how busy we all get when the rail road has trouble
my 2 cents

Yes we will have expedidite, but in five years from 1000 trucks on this pilot programs, then it will go staight trucks, vans, maybe even add horse/donkey and buggy, to upper 100,000 + trucks, vans ect. all around 17 cents then tell me you will still get $.50+ when companies get drivers for 17 cents and plenty of trucks. This will efect owner operators too in future. Call me a fool now but 5 years make it from the poor house.

sunshine to all, thanks JohnieO, I sent the notice to my reps from Mi and to other states. Now if the rest of you all would stop snapping at each other and pool your resources maybe we can make a difference. Let's try to be a little nicer to each other and just maybe we can weather this financial crisis we are in. Safe journeys to all:)

Currently the original bill is in force and the pilot program is up and running. This new bill that the House passed eliminates funding for bill and reopens negotiations between House, Senate & President hopefully to end program entirely or put so many restrictions onboard that it isn’t beneficially to Mexican companies.

The Senate will deliberate bill upon return from summer break and then both House and Senate negotiate wording before sending it to president for his signature or veto.

I’ll keep all posted on new events.

Government not listening to the public. Government levying taxes on the people without their consent/proper representation. Government not looking out for the public good. Government taxing the por to give to the rich. Sounds like we went congress and senatethis in 1776. Mabey THE PEOPLE should stand up and say enough (remember the Boston Tea Party). Maybe THE PEOPLE should say ENOUGH. It seems to me that WE THE PEOPLE are not being represented by the people WE PUT IN OFFICE. Sounds like it's time THE PEOPLE should take back control of a system that forgot about THE PEOPLE and are stuffing their pockets with THE PEOPLE'S money. WE THE PEOPLE have been forgoten by OUR representitives in both the congress and senate. OUR Representitives have turned WE THE PEOPLE into WE THE PEOPLE WHO THEY DON"T CARE ABOUT! Maybe WE THE PEOPLE should kick out OUR non-representiives. But heh what do I know, I'm just one of 270,000,000 WE THE PEOPLE. Personally I would not mind another American Revelotion. But that's just my unasked for opinion. I am sure you think I'm crazy. Funny thing is thst is what the British thought about us prior to 1776. I wonder if this will get posted. Please excuse the grammar and spelling.

T-Hawk,
I saw a great looking Ford C-cab COE and Ford H series COE Mexican expediters down at the border.

The C-cab had a sleeper added to it that looked like it was made out of another c-cab. The truck was tricked out, chrome all over the place, nice wheels and what looked like a new box on the back. It was painted a blue metallic paint with black striping.

The H was very clean and painted with a yellow and purple and it looked like it had a sleeper but it had something expediting on the side of it.

Both of these looked like they came out of the 60's and not the first time I have seen old nice looking trucks on the road down there.
