McConnell: No real deficit deal until Obama is gone

I guess it's okay to let us default on our obligations as long as we get rid of Obama in the White House. Unbelievable. The only problem with that idiotic logic is, the American people will not see it as Obama not compromising, they will see it as the Republicans not compromising and working together to get things done. These idiots(republicans) can get real spending cuts and get closer to balancing the budget, but their hatred and their quest to take back the White House at any cost will not allow them to do it.

If you notice in the article, McConnell says the debt-ceiling will be raised with nothing being done about spending cuts or real ways of bringing down our debt. Looks like Obama will get a clean bill to raise the debt ceiling and the Republicans lost a chance at real spending cuts. Well done Mr. President.

If raising taxes on those making over $200,000(single) and $250,000(married) are so bad, why not let Obama raise them? Blame him for raising taxes on the rich in the upcoming election. Any other time that is what would happen, but they know this is the solution to bringing down our debt and would only make Obama look successful, along with bringing Osama bin Laden down, he would be a lock for re-election. They just can't let that happen.

The Senate's top Republican said Tuesday that he did not see a way for Republicans and Democrats to come to agreement on meaningful deficit reduction as long as President Obama remains in office.

"After years of discussions and months of negotiations, I have little question that as long as this president is in the Oval Office, a real solution is probably unattainable," Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said in remarks on the Senate floor.

The remarks come as negotiations between Republicans and Democrats intensify on long-term deficit reduction ahead of a looming deadline on how much the United States can legally borrow.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and many economists have warned of economic catastrophe if the $14.3 trillion debt ceiling is not raised before August 2.

And lawmakers from both parties want to use the threat of that deadline to work out a broader package on long-term deficit reduction. Republicans are looking to cut trillions of dollars in federal spending, while Democrats are pushing for a more "balanced approach," which would include both spending cuts and higher revenue to the government.

McConnell suggested later in his remarks that the debt ceiling will still be raised, but without a broader deal on long-term deficit reduction.

"The president has presented us with three choices: smoke and mirrors, tax hikes, or default. Republicans choose none of the above. I had hoped to do good, but I refuse to do harm. So Republicans will choose a path that actually reflects the will of the people, which is to do the responsible thing and ensure that the government doesn't default on its obligations," he said.

Mr. Obama says he will not sign a short-term deal, saying, "This the United States of America and, you know, we don't manage our affairs in three-month increments."

McConnell is not the only member of his party ratcheting up the rhetoric Tuesday. Speaking of Mr. Obama, House Speaker John Boehner of Ohio said "the debt limit increase is his problem." (see at left.)

"And I think it's time for him to lead by putting his plan on the table," he continued. "Something that the Congress can pass."

Republicans have walked away from negotiations led by Mr. Obama to reach a $4 trillion deficit reduction deal over ten years, saying a smaller deal is more feasible.

Boehner has been under pressure from his Republican colleagues, with many in the House GOP caucus -- particularly the Tea Party-backed freshmen and his deputy, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor - bucking his apparent willingness to compromise with Mr. Obama on a "grand bargain" to reach the $4 trillion figure.

In a closed-door meeting with the caucus Tuesday morning, he explained why he believed the negotiations fell apart.

According to a source in the room, Boehner said he initially sought a larger deal that included reform to entitlement programs. Mr. Obama agreed, he said -- on the condition that the deal include revenue increases.

In Boehner's telling, he refused to consider tax increases but said he would discuss tax reform -- lowering tax rates while closing tax loopholes in a way that was revenue neutral. Mr. Obama countered that he would consider corporate tax reform but not personal tax reform.

Boehner, the source said, told his caucus he wanted both, arguing that such an approach is necessary because some small business owners claim earnings as personal income. Mr. Obama agreed, on the condition that the Bush-era tax cuts for low earners be made permanent -- presumably while the tax cuts for high earners are allowed to expire. In Boehner's telling, that's when talks began to break down.

Mr. Obama is continuing to push for the largest possible deal, and urged lawmakers Monday to "eat our peas" and get it done.

"It is possible for us to construct a package that would be balanced, would share sacrifice [and] would involve both parties taking on their sacred cows," he said.

Get a non-biased news source. CBS cannot be trusted to tell the story without any spin.

I have little doubt that both Obama and every one else is doing nothing more than playing politics to insure their own power and reelection. CBS is a shill "news" (nightly entertainment group) for the Obama camp.

I don't trust them. Nothing more that lying sacks of turkey doodoo.

The White House called McConnell's remarks "unfortunate," saying Mr. Obama "has made clear his willingness to compromise, to take heat from his own party."

"This president's going to be in office for at least another 18 months, and I think the American people expect Congress to work with him," said White House Press Secretary Jay Carney.

Please show me where you think there is spin in this story  It's an update on how things are going (or not going) with the debt-ceiling talks.

Well... the title itself is skewed. McConnell didn't say "no real deficit deal". He said "no real solution". Deal puts the ball in the Republican's court. Solution puts the ball in Obama's court, where it belongs.

Mr. Obama is continuing to push for the largest possible deal, and urged lawmakers Monday to "eat our peas" and get it done.

"It is possible for us to construct a package that would be balanced, would share sacrifice [and] would involve both parties taking on their sacred cows," he said.

How brave he is! Eat our peas! In other words, I've got some soul food for you Republicans to eat. Now do it!

I love how the media puts him out there as such a macho guy. They go thru his quotes with a fine tooth comb, and tell the readers, "YEAH Mr President! You tell them Republicans what-for!

Bush never got this treatment. His quotes were always mediocre or weak.
==============================================

"Mr. Obama says he will not sign a short-term deal, saying, "This the United States of America and, you know, we don't manage our affairs in three-month increments.""

Who is skirting the issue now? He wants compromise, sure... but he wants it HIS way. How about compromising on a salad, Mr President, so we know you're not going to screw us on the main course?

Obama can say what ever he wants to about taking heat from his own party. Its funny how the republicans wanted 4 trillion Obama says they need to compromise. so they drop down to two trillion now Obama wants four trillion.gotta love the blind sheep that belive every word he says.what kind of heat is he gonna take from his own party? when they have made it clear no cuts to welfare in any form.where is their compromise?Obama is the only democrat that is saying ok to cuts.Even if the republicans pass a bill with 4 trillion in cuts it never makes it past the senate.which means it never makes it to obamas desk.so then he can say see how much the republicans want to take away from the poor.See how evil they are they only care about the rich.just like they were saying two weeks ago when the republicans were at 4 trillion.

here is your spin!you seem to forget or maybe its just you not really knowing what OBAMA stands for. Obama is the man who made the CEO of a company that made billions of dollars last year and paid ZERO IN TAXES one of his top advisors.and the kicker is the guy is still the CEO OF GE:eek:this is the same CEO that in ten years sent half of GE work force to china and mexico.Wont hear about that on CBS or MSNBC now thats spin!!

even if you raise taxes on the rich they are still gonna spend more then they take in with out real cuts.Obamas deal calls for the cuts go into effect in the last two years of the ten year deal.so what does his deal do for the country now.

when some one on here from the left can tell me how a person paying 15% of say 60,000 with all the taxe cuts they can get is paying more then the person making 200,000 with all their tax brakes pays 10% then I might side with raise taxes on the rich.however you cant just like their is no real proof when you on the left says the rich dont pay their fair share:D

Hows this for spin.

So obama is now saying how if the republican dont agree to raise the debt limit then they will have failed the american people.

in the first two years of Obama as president he and his democrat controlled congress racked up 3.22 trillion in debt almost half of it on failed polices.

On march 16 2006 Obama says this the fact that we are here today, to debate raising americas debt limit is a sign of leadership failure.America has a debt problem a failure of leadership.America deserves better.I therefore intend to oppose the effort to increase amreicas debt limit.Obama then went on to vote against raising the debt limit.

heres your spin seems like OBAMA now sees BUSH knew what he was talking about:eek:

that time it was pretty much a stand alone vote not really to many democrats worried about the sky falling then!!

The real spin is in the comments of the OP. This isn't about getting Obama out of the White House or else we refuse to reach a deal, it's about Obama refusing to actually compromise to get a deal done. It's about flat out not being able to get one done as long as he refuses to budge. Obama won't give in to compromise in real spending cuts, and any tax reform he will consider must be tied to still more of the same redistribution of wealth crap. Obama wants token spending cuts and more taxes to reduce the deficit, while everybody else just wants the government to stop spending money they don't have in the first place and to live within their means just like the rest of us. He wants both parties to take on their sacred cows, but he wants Republicans, not Democrats, to really mean it. Result? No real solution to the deficit can be reached with this man in office.

This Obama quote tells us a lot about his mentality and how little he understands about the economic consequences of his actions:

"I will not accept a deal that allows me to keep hundreds of thousands of dollars that I don't need..."

YouTube - ‪Obama Explains His Socialist Vision‬‏

He ignores the fact that the "wealthy" already pay over 86% of all income taxes, and that about 50% of income earners pay none. His attitude is that your income actually belongs to the government, and they should be able to "spread it around" as they see fit. This liberal mindset sees government as the single controlling authority of people's lives, and that politicians should be able to spend as much of other people's money as they want in order to enhance their own political gains and accomplish their socialist agenda.

The GOP needs to call his bluff on the veto of a short term deal that would give them more time to work out something that resembles a compromise. They should NOT accept any tax increases. Extending the debt ceiling should be offset by spending cuts - and contrary to what the socialist-in-chief says there will be plenty of income to service the debt while all this is worked out; we will not "default" and this scare tactic should be ignored. If he does veto the short term deal he will be exposed as not being serious about cutting the spending that has killed any chance of economic recovery while the Democrats held power. Keep in mind that since he's been in office the Dems have defied the law of the land by not submitting a budget in over two years. The media conveniently ignores this piece of trivia, but it's almost unheard of in modern era politics.

How do you post a pic, full size? I know it's not the place, but it has to do with one of the posts in this thread. Thanx.

If it's wider than 640 pixels, I'm gonna smack you, but you get the URL of the picture, either by uploading it to someplace like Photobucket, or, if you're philosophically OK with hotlinking, then right-click on the picture and select "View Picture" and then grab the URL from the address bar, and then come here and in the text box place the cursor on the line where you want to insert the picture, and then click the Insert Picture icon (sun rising over the mountains, looks more like a postage stamp), and paste the URL into that box.
