Last week I got a load picking up in eagle pass going to Toledo. I had to d/h 149 miles to get the load. I got to eagle pass several hours early. Went shopping and got into the truck to find a place to wait. A few minutes later the load cancelled. Despite the fact that I was there, I got no attempt because I was told was there way too early. Rather than sit in eagle pass, I then went another 120 miles to laredo. End result of the day? 270 d/h free of charge and truck got no attempt for load cancelling. Not to mention the hours lost for potential loads.
The next load had me d/h from laredo to Brownsville going to el paso. Where I spent the rest of the weekend.
Most companies do not pay layover. This one does. It was that layover which covered the eagle pass fiasco and softened the blow. If I am somewhere east of the miss I use that 2 days layover to move to a better spot. Out west it is to far away from our freight lanes to move on 100.00 bucks. So stubbornness occurs and we sit.
I say this because there is nothing wrong with your current layover system. Please,
If it isn't broke, don't fix it!
I have nothing intelligible to offer for the restriction dilemma, except that we are contractors. If it is a noted restriction like nyc then one shouldn't be penalized for it.
After all, it is the contractor limiting his own options, not the company.
Also, the unit sits out here for days making nothing and spending money. It is our agreement with you, sir, to haul your freight. Even with restrictions.

IMHO, of course...:p

The question now comes... Why should Load 1 pay the layover because of a personal restriction? Canada excluded

In the Guido case as an example...he had far exceeded the 48 hr period and was on his own time... Hence no penalty

Why Canada excluded? A restriction is a restriction. :D

I do agree that after 48 hours it's a moot point, anyway. But I also think that if it's a typical restriction, like Canada or NYC or Northeast, that it shouldn't have an effect on layover, because it doesn't have a normal effect on the carrier being able to get you loaded. I mean, when was the last time Load 1 actively bid on loads going to Saskatchewan, BC or Alberta? Not bidding on those certainly limits the driver's ability to get loaded, in reverse. They don't bid on those because they can't get drivers loaded back out of there, so the drivers will turn them down more often than not. Drivers have Northeast and NYC restrictions for the same reasons.

By the same token, a "No Laredo" or "No Texas" restriction by a driver will certainly limit the carrier's ability to get them loaded, since Texas loads are a common part of the carrier's daily business. As such, a restriction like that should be a factor in layover and turn-downs. If you don't want to go to Texas, this might not be the business for you. NYC is a little different.

But certainly, after 48 hours has passed and layover no longer applies, you shouldn't be penalized ex post facto for turning down a load.

Like anything else, common sense and good judgment applies, and for the most part I think the fine folks at Load 1 show plenty of both. If you've been sitting there for, say, 30 hours, it's Thursday afternoon, and the phone rings, "I've got two loads available, but both are going to NYC. I know you're "No NYC" but if you don't take one or the other it's unlikely that you'll get loaded out of there before Monday." Turn them down and it's not unreasonable to have to forfeit layover pay for the second day.

You don't need ID to death to get into and out of NYC....and there is the criminal aspect as well. Some can't qualify to cross... That is why I said exempt Canada

Very nice. Who did your swing out arm set up?

Batteries plus cambridge oh. They built it strong and even added a grease zert on the swing arm bushing. First time they have done the zert and used a bigger gauge bushing but are improving the design with experience and feedback.

Decided to call it a weekend early...spent my day with a beautiful young lady :) who wanted to go with Grampa

Did the yard sale rounds, then got called to go sing at one of the local nursing homes, so we spent part of the afternoon there visiting with some folk we know.
