HI

Anybody heard anything about us having to seal our vehicles with gov't seals? My understanding of this is its only for automotive loads.I checked the US Customs site but could not find any thing related to this.Is this just a rumor or is it a fact?

Bryan,

You should only have to seal the load with a tag if you are "Triping" through Canada.

I don't know whether you are refering to in Canada or in the USA.
CANADA
If you are taking goods "in bond" either through Canada back to the USA or to an Inland Sufferance Warehouse; yes you must be sealed.
If your vehicle or load cannot be sealed you must present it Customs for their inspection and they will note that information on your manifest.
You can check the CBSA website and look at "D-3" for any Customs transportation regulations.

I spent some quailty internet time and came up with this on the US Customs site:http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/import/commercial_enforcement/ctpat/security_criteria/
It seems that to be CTPAT certified we as transporters HAVE to secure our loads and inform dispatch of the seal numbers. If for ANY reason the seal is changed, we will have to reseal and inform dispatch of reason and new numbers. This is to go into effect 60 days from March 15,2006. This is for ALL LOADS coming into the US.
