markings

what are the requirements for markings on trucks? I.E. company ones?
I don't get to see many expediter trucks in the greater Des Moines,IA area. Some I have seen with markings that cover the box and couple times just small signs on a door or on the bunk area, that are maybe a couple foot square. Seen one unit last week that all I noticed was the flames (painted ones?) that went around the hood. Didn't see no sign at all.

Good question...

Each company has their own individual policy regarding the type and size of decals that must be present on a particular unit. Most of the bigger companies use the decals for "brand recognition" while some smaller companies require no decals at all.

I hope this sheds a little light on your question - The flames were just somebody expressing themselves. I really like seeing custom work on expediter trucks... it's just cool. - Scott

The following is required to be displayed on vehicles: The company name of the carrier, the city and state the carrier is loacted in, and the US DOT number.
Anything else is advertising.

The current law ( as I have been informed) requires that the company that operates the vehicle ( the O/O or company that is the contractee) have the company name, state, DOT number, ICC/MC and VIN listed on the door or side of the cab/sleeper. Having a line that states the vehicle is leased/contracted to another company (if you are) takes care of some of the possible confusion.

Scales go by VIN numbers. Depending on the state, if you have crossed one of their scales in the last 90 days, all the scale will do is log your VIN and let you roll on unless something is obviously wrong. Some states, like Colorado do not have their computers linked. So if you haven't crossed a scale in 30 days or so, you will need to go inside with your paperwork. This applies to all the other scales you will cross in that state.

As I understand it, the company that is the leasor ( Panther II, Con Way) will add their own banners, marque etc.

This information is not ecthed in stone. It is what I have experienced as a company OTR driver.
