In general with a Tractor and '53 trailer can you tell us an overall average weight, in general? That is interesting that you get a lower pay scale if the load is smaller, I assume that is all agreed upfront w/ fsc and all? So even if there are no smaller trucks avail in the area you get the lower rate?

DreamTeam, if you like old posts and are having second thoughts about which carrier to hookup with, check this out. Just above the code of conduct post and towards the right is some page numbers. click "last" which should bring you to page 307. Then scroll down to the thread titled "Roberts Express". Roberts was the original big time expedite company and was purchased by FedEx. Read this thread from 8 years ago. Look at the rates and companies.

DT44 - Our carrier's statistics indicate that 50+% of all their expedited freight weighs 5000 pounds or less. I suspect that this holds true for all other expedite carriers that operate on an exclusive use, door-to-door basis. A couple of years back, I averaged all my cargo van loads for a year at 434 pounds, a full ton less than my capacity.

dream team,we at fed ex custom critical work on percentage of freight rate, not flat rate, the only pay we get that is flay tare is the fsc, that is based on the price of fuel, and we get fsc on all dispatched miles, thats loaded and empty.Every size truck at the fed has a different rate to the customer,so lets say i take a D load, the customer is paying a D rate even though I'm there in a tractor trailer,of course im getting fsc for a tractor. As far as i'm concerened, being payed a percentage of load is much bettert tha a flat rate per mile.Ive done it both ways and percentage is the only way to go.now going with weights,we are suppose to be able to hau 44000#,nd tere will be times this might happen.but few and far between.my weights are usually around 15000 to 20000 lbs,but i have hauled an E rate load that weighed just a couple hundred lbs,but that was because of the size, wouldnt fit in an D truck.hen you check the arcives, expedite freight is high pay low miles. The only disadvantage the percentage contract is on discoount loads, but your still making more than the companies paying flat rate
hope this helps with you decission to what you are going to do,what evber you do,just dont get in a hurry, check with the drivers from all the companies, see how long they have been with the company, and if they were anywhere else.expedite is a hurry up and wait type of business, most truck drivers hate the wait part, but i make more money in three loads out of 5 days than running my truck into the ground just to stay above water.

Hey Fish,

I failed to mention that after I picked up my 2 pound box, I called the dispatcher and asked if I could pass it to a van. He said the van guy was still at home, so I offered to drive the 20 miles out of the way to bring it to his door. Oh, and I gave him some gas money.(Applause)

Can I bring my rolled up newspaper pillow and borrow half of your bench? :D

Wow! Thanks for sharing this, Moot. Here's the link to the 2006 Roberts thread. It seems that the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Phil, thanks for posting the link for me. How did you do that? I tried and was unsuccessful.

You tell em Leo, you tell em!! :)
I once hauled a 'load' from one end of michigan to the other. Went to the shipper, backed up to the dock, put down the stabilizers.....Walked into the office and was given my load...A box about the size of shoe box, and not much heavier either. Didn't matter to me, I was getting paid my contracted rate for 'the load'.......Pulled away from the dock, closed the doors and put the box in the compartment under the sleeper.....Off I went!!
I'll take those loads anyday of the week!!!!! :)
