Macks?

Anyone seen a Mack truck done up as a straight expediter?

So far, I think I have seen at least one of every major brand of truck done up as a straight truck expediter, except a Marmon and a Mack. Marmons not being built anymore, I'll just ask about Macks.

Thanks.

The prize expediter they gave away a few years ago at the Expo was a Mack. There are also a couple of Mack expediters on truckpaper.com.

They are a rare thing when it comes to Expeditors. When I think of a Mack, I have visions of something massive being moved. Not a little ole load of 4 foot pallets. I always considered Macks and Internationals as work trucks. But I admit, they have had to plush them up and try to make them an over the road truck. They look pretty comfy these days. I don't know how they compete price wise. That could be the determining factor.

that Dog is manufacture in Israel ,in a factory next to my O'l High school . i used to volunteer in that factory ,just so i can go home with one . makes for a great trade at the cafeteria ,we all had those on our bicycles .
the most valuable one's are those with nice defects ,like missing a leg ...
the metal that the dog made of, comes from a mine in the southern desert . it is very light ,and melts at about 220 deg. C. so very little burner needed to keep it liquid .

Thanks all, for the replies. I'll keep my eye out for some of those trucks mentioned.

Somewhere, I have a couple of those hood ornaments, one silver and one gold toned.

The Comcar companies (WSE, CT, CT Transport) are big buyers of Macks. When I was looking to get on with the flatbed division, CT Transport, I asked the local terminal manager why they did so. He stated that besides the higher ups preferring to buy trucks built in the US, there are more options for specing the trucks, the ride better than most of the other big name trucks, and are quieter. Feel it is less fatiguing on the drivers.

Thanks again.

there are more options for specing the trucks,

Things have changed at Mack since Volvo bought them. In the old days most Macks came with a Mack engine, Mack transmission, Mack axles, Mack rears, Mack suspension and Mack tough.

This is a purebred 1973 F model with a whopping 237 hp Maxidyne engine. It also had power steering which is way cool!

I believe you can still get them that way, but at premium price!

I've been driving a Mack Vision tractor for 3 years . They are a good , comfortable OTR truck but the big problem is poor service at dealerships . The truck has been returned to the dealerships in KY , IN , OH , and ON because they didn't get it right the first (sometimes second or third ) time . Banner Mack in Evansville , IN is the worst .
Kentuckiana Mack in Jeffersonville , IN did a recall on a wiring relay . When I started out of the Flying J parking lot in London , ON the next day I lost my marker lights . I went to London Mack and gave them the invoice from Kentuckiana . Two hours later they gave me a bill for a light switch and told me it was only coincidence I had the problem after Kentuckiana performed their work .
As soon as I got on the 401 I lost my marker lights again but it was daylight and the load couldn't be further delayed . When I was making the delivery in Missasauga I gt on the Blackberry and fired of e-mails to Mack corporate headquarters and London Mack . When I got back to London they did what they should have done in the first place . They told me Kentuckiana routed the wiring wrong and it was shorting out .
The only Mack dealership I have seen give satisfactory service is Cambridge (ON ) Mack .

I see alot of older cabover city Macks than I anyother truck. they just tend to last forver, they require very little maintence & are very reliable. Those older trucks don't look very comfortable or look pleasing to the eye but they last & that's the most important part.

These new Macks are great looking trucks!

This photo of a Mack straight truck was taken at the Ontario, California truck stop a couple of weeks ago.

I have always wondered what happed to that Mack straight that was given away at the Expo. It would be a shame if it was disassembled, or worse sitting rotting away in a field or behind a shop somewhere. Maybe Lawrence knows.

Interesting post on the 23rd of Oct. from Jim regarding Macks being bought by ComCar... More than likely it's really a financial choice... They ride good, but not that good. They are cheaper than Petes, and don't ride nearly as well. Ride a Pete, and then go ride in a Mack- if you had the money I'd be willing to bet you would buy a Pete. I'm sure there are some other issues as to why they buy Macks, but their ride and the fact that they are made in USA... thats sounds like a rumor that corporate wants you to hear. Bear in mind you were talking about flatbedding, Macks are a great construction industry rig. Look at how many dump trucks and mixers are often times a Mack. Kenworth, Pete, and Western Star have attempted to get into the mixer world, but it's been so dominated by mack and also OshKosh that it's tough. Interesting post with interesting replies. Macks can stand up to alot of abuse, and they are great off the pavement and on it. However, some models of Macks don't ride all that great on the pavement, like the granite series... but off road and at speeds below 45 they are great and I'd be hard pressed to want to ride in even a Freightliner which I'm partial to because I like their looks. I like the looks of a Freightliner, the ride of a Pete, and the interior of a Volvo. with that being said, I also like the performance of a Mack and the performance of a KW. I will agree that Macks and Internationals are "Work" trucks, although their new LoneStar may change that in the years to come. I've not yet driven any Western Stars.
