Lower fuel prices

You guys don't get it... well some do.....

A strike will never happen... the trucking culture will die completely if it ever happens in small areas of the country at these prices.... Maybe $6 a gallon it will start looking good....the real problem is that a majority can't afford it and the non-union company drivers will lose their job, so they are out....

but the price of fuel is not driven by anything but taxes and the value of the dollar...... if you want to blame anyone.... here is a list....

the governors of every state.

the congress

the president for not insisting on rechartering the EPA

the EPA

CARB

and you.

Strikes don't do a thing except piss people off, you are blocking them from taking their brats to soccer practice.

I have yet seen one PSA or paid commercial about trucking and the dependency that our country has on the trucks going down the road.

You want cheaper prices, then get involved. Start with making sure that you and you kids and spouse are all registered to vote and then your neighbors. THEN VOTE.

Get a hold of truckers who want to go and visit the representatives and go. Don't talk about it, do it and do it right.

Greg makes a good point about the value of the dollar & taxes. While prices for US citizens has risen, for awhile there a Canadian coming to the US can actually get MORE gas for their $20 because the value of the dollar fell so much.

By this I mean in 2004 if a Canadian brought $20 to the US @ an exchange rate of 1.65-1, they'd have $12US to buy gas. Gas back then was approx $2.00 gallon. Therefore they could get 6 US gallons of gas w/ their $20.

Now w/ the dollar at par, & gas @$3/gallon, they can get 7 gallons of gas w/ $20. I know that gas is now over $3 & heading to 4, so even they are paying more for gas. Not nearly as much more as we are though. Still, the idea is the same. The price of gas is reflected in what Greg said & also the fact that China & India are buying it too.

I hadn't thought about how if everyone slowed down it could possibly help w/ gas prices. That's a pretty good thought. On my own account, I have slowed down, but more to save on a personal level. I hadn't considered the nationwide ramifications if everyone lightened up on the pedal. Good thought there.

Take care,
Danny

1 Get to know brokers in that area i have one that hasent failed me yet and while i hate brokers in general this one has treated me well in the past.
2 Leo is right slow down i was listening to Kevin Rutherford the other day and someone called in with the same setup i have he told him to run 13/13.25 on the tac i did and even with 2 heavy loads in one week my miliage came up to 2% points on the monthly adv.
3. Change to super singles when its tire time that will give you about 10% increase in fuel savings i will be getting them next time on either my new truck if i can make the deal i want or ill put them on this one. Kind of hate rebuilding a motor on this truck but time is getting near.
By the way 13/13.25 on the tac = 63mph in my truck its hard to do i have a heavy foot but cruise control is a wounderful thing and believe it or not but it pulls the hills better because the truck is in the right speed for the best pulling power

super singles will only get you about a 2% increase in fuel savings, but dont have a flat.I have a freiend that he went to super singles, his road service has become terrible,as his trucks, when getting a flat, cant get to a truck stop,he does pull flat beds so hes in bad locatioms for tire failure. He told me the super singles was the worst move he ever made.
