Love those directions

That's what I'm getting at... "We have directions, but it's not our fault if they're wrong." To me, that's not a very stable business relationship.

I know better, yes. I have many ways to find the shipper/consignee. And the dispatch I work with will bust their butts to get me in the right door. When all else fails, ask the locals. I've even had to guess. I refuse to be helpless out there. But not everyone does know. And from experience, I've found out some companies don't have a clue, regardless of how big they are. Put a newbie on with them and it's the blind leading the blind.

I have been late (2x in 3 yrs) due to some innacurate directions from P2, but was not penalized for it after stating on QC that dirs were wrong...one time the directions were so far off (actually 300 miles off)...there just happened to be 2 cities of the same name in PQ, and of course we were sent to the wrong one! no biggie they paid all the DH that day :)

For those of you out there who don't have a laptop program or GPS (i have Garmin now) check into whether or not your cellphone and carrier support TeleNav...the wife and I used that for almost 2 yrs before getting the garmin 550. on TeleNav it can even pull up the name of the business your'e going to if the address is unable to be found which is something the garmin WON'T do. TeleNav doesn't work in Canada though.

> or the customer's phone
>number (which is Panther's policy not to give drivers);

If its not panther policy? why is there always a customer phone number on my load offers, and I have never ( in the last 9 months) had panther NOT give me a customer phone number....

It's funny how alot of comments on this thread don't make sense now, because the original antagonistic response was deleted. Oh well.

Had a night delivery one time. Down south somewhere. The cons was hidden off the road and of course, no visible sign. I went to another plant, asked the locals. I have no idea what they said. I went to the handi-mart. Went in. Young woman looked liked an India type person. Thought to my self, "great, another non English speaking clerk" I asked her. She replied in perfect English with perfect grammer. She had sort of an English accent. Go figure.

We had that exact same thing happen in Canada almost! We where in a residential type area in Toronto and Bob stopped at a little repair shop and some Indian looking guys in broken English told him where to go and how hard the plant was to find. They suggested he stop at the BMW dealer and get the final directions as the plant was directly behind the dealer but the entrance was hidden to the plant. The BMW dealer had never heard of the plant! We stopped at another little repair shop near the BMW dealer and they said yes the plant is right behind the BMW dealership and this is how to get there! The non English speaking people gave us the best directions we had had in a long time and they where very cheerful about giving them also. Sometimes you really should go back and thank them for the help they give other times well...

Panther's canned directions are from post office to post office making them useless. Most of their customer's directions are good and usually amended by drivers. As for the phone numbers provided, I have had several that were disconnected or said that the extension was unassigned without first giving an official company name and greeting. Those make me suspicious.

For the most part I rely on the customer's directions and double check it on a map, the c.b. and a 2001 edition of Rand McNally Street Finder. Being in a van I am not concerned with truck routes and low clearances and have the ability to hang a U-turn just about anywhere.

My favorite was "Stop and ask some locals for directions"...we were in Montreal Canada where no one spoke English!?!? Funny.

They speak English, they're just ignorant about it. Just like the no-abla wetbacks.

Hi

"Up yonder" is north or back the way you came,"down yonder" is south or keep going straight, "over yonder" is east or west, you have to watch the finger point on that one. "A ways" is more than 1 mile."A fair piece" is more than 5 miles."Just" is less than a mile. By the way most stuff is over the railroad tracks or under the water tower.

Hello, All.

I don't understand the folks in Minnesota and Wisconsin and thereabouts. When asked directions they might say "You drive a boat three miles north and then......" Don't they know I'm in a truck and not a boat? How can you drive a boat on the hard road surface?
