Love them Sprinter 07's!!

Fueled up the other night and a 2007 Sprinter 170" wheelbase tall boy was in front of me...WoW Everything is bigger on these badboys...the styling is alot better, interior much improved. 6 cylinder diesel. Side door has to be 12 in. bigger as well .Can actually side load now! 2 in. rear door height now 72" And they got rid of the Michelins...Continentals now. Illinios price was off the lot at 38 and change. Considering S. Dakotas tax at 3% brings it down into low 37's same as I paid for an 05.

OVM, do you know what the GVRW is for a 170" tall boy? I went to the website and only found towing info.

Oh yeah..he said he was getting about 22mpg.

Interesting info on the GVWR - the Dodge website shows 8550 lbs as the "standard GVWR" for an extended 170 inch WB high roof 2500 ...... with a "maximum GVWR" of 8550 lbs.

It also shows a "standard GVWR" of 9990 lbs for an extended 170 inch WB high roof 3500 ...... with a "maximum GVWR" of 11030 lbs ..... slightly confusing .........

Anyone know what is up with this ?

I believe what you read on the website is right. 8550 the only available gvwr for the 2500. The 3500 standard is 9990 which is unchanged from previous years with an available option of 11,030.
I think it would be interesting to see how many 11,030 gvwr units they sell or better yet how many 11,030 they sell and buyers continue to operate without logs and required insurance upgrade.

Last year I had a salesman trying to convince me that those new ones would be wide enough to have a crossways bed for a 6 foot plus guy... not quite, but an improvement at about 70 inches width.

They have some great accessories for Sprinters. Man could you customize in the grand tradition of the Vanners! Burlwood dash, pushbars, grab handles, insulation kits, extra mirrors, stainless wheel covers, running boards, even bug shields and the right size sunshields for the windshield!

I could get way carried away.. LOL.

Unrelated but I watched the late Steve (Irwin) AKA Crocodile hunter on a cross country adventure with his family.
They were in a Sprinter motor home conversion and that thing rocked.
Roomy enough for an adventure yet small enough to not need a car for the day excursions.
I will have one when I make my 1st million.

With all the Sprinter expertise here could someone answer a question?

If I'm looking at a '03 2500 with 158" WB and 154 hp diesel with 350k miles, what would be the best bet on what would fail first? Engine Trans. or something else costly?

Should the engine be rebuilt before putting it on the road or not?

I know you can't tell without oil test and drive test ect..

But a guess.

I myself would never put a rebuild into a Sprinter....for 10g's plus labour you get a new motor, turbo, injectors,water pump all new electrical connectors...and FULL factory warranty

Since we don't know what PM was done, my guess would be the turbo first to go...

Recently, while ordering parts & supplies for my '02, I talked w/Steve Schrock of Europarts (858-451-0020) and he said he was getting a lot of orders (dunno how many) from owners of high mileage '02s & '03s for cylinder heads. He said due to hairline cracking. Dunno know if that's the known problem of injectors loosening w/time or some other issue.

Thanks guys.
I talked to a Sprinter Service man today and he said that it would cost $3k for labor to rebuild plus maybe half again in parts.

I told him about the milage and he said not to worry. He has several customers with 300k plus miles and doing fine.

Also said that one or more are working on the 500k mark.

I mentioned, and he agreed that the milage might just tell of the strength of the unit untill a oil test and detailed check by a sprinter mechanic would be possible.

Do I remember someone on here saying that you should always take a sprinter to a Freightliner and not a Dodge dealer because of the diesel experiance?

one of best places i know to take a sprinter toget work on is tysinger's in hampton va they have 3 sprinter people who are great


on the 3500 sprinter for 07 the wheel wells are 36" and not able to cut out the 4 1/2 " on each side like you could on 06 and below
check it out one day when i had time
i would like one , but enjoy the paid up part right now
just had the rear brakes done at 156,000 and front were done at 102,000, sprinter people couldn't believe it

Sprinter brake life has been reported by many and is all over the map.

I just replaced my first front set on my '02 140" 2500SHC at 107k miles and the rears look like they'll last through the life of this new set. I learned during this replacement that all Sprinter brakes are not created equally. It's common knowledge that OEM Sprinter brake calipers have been made by several manufacturers and that you have to know the make of the caliper installed before you buy the replacement pads. Even though made by several, I had assumed the calipers and pads were basically the same design (pad thickness and area), but I heard from a vendor that's not so. In my case, I have Bosch front calipers (there are actually 2 types of Bosch front calipers) and this vendor told me that these particular calipers are usually installed on 3500s and use the largest and thickest pads he's seen for the Sprinter. (also, I wouldn't have known which Bosch type I had if the dealer hadn't specified the PN using my VIN.)

Seems to me larger and thicker pads should give more life than those that are thinner and smaller, so maybe we should expect Sprinter brake life to be all over the map?

Just turned 190,000 on my 2005 only 50% wear on fronts and 40% on rear...dealer said he'd go broke if everyone drove like me!!! *L*
