Love The One You're With - And Marry Them

With the recent SCOTUS announcement that they will take up the issue of same-sex marriage, it only stands to reason that other couples believe they should have the same right to marry because they're in love. So now as day follows night, we have this announcement from two young lovers who happen to be related.
But one such unnamed couple living in the Great Lakes region is now making news after the teen daughter talked at length with the magazine about reuniting with her father — whom she hadn't seen since she was about 5 — 12 years later and finding herself instantly attracted to him.
The daughter says they have been dating for nearly two years — since she lost her virginity to her father just days after reuniting with him — and that they plan to marry, if unofficially, and move to New Jersey, where adult incest is legal.

18-year-old plans to marry her long-lost father
Being a son of the South, I can't help but notice the irony of this couple being from the "Great Lakes region" where they have been dating for two years and planning on living in New Jersey where adult incest is legal. So much for inbred hillbillies.:rolleyes: Maybe marriage between humans and pets isn't too far down the road as our new pop culture gravitates more toward hedonism every day.

You "can't help but notice the irony", eh? One couple, as opposed to enough to create a stereotype, and you just gloat, as if it balances everything out. I'm not fond of the stereotype, [my Dad was born & raised in WV, and I still have family there], but it became a stereotype for good reasons, which were mainly isolation [compounded by distrust, caused by ignorance], and those reasons no longer much exist. I hope the incest no longer exists too, but since people don't much admit it, maybe it does, who knows? What I do know is that people who refer to "inbred hillbillies" ought to meet my cousin - she's a pediatrician - and see if they can say that to her face.

PS Hedonism and marriage are pretty much mutually exclusive, Braniac. :rolleyes:

As usual you don't grasp the point of the subject matter, don't understand
the definition or concept of hedonism, and have to get in a little personal dig to boot. Here's a hint: check out the Wikipedia link and the states that don't have incest penalties. This also might help:
Hedonism;
noun
1. (ethics)
  • the doctrine that moral value can be defined in terms of pleasure See utilitarianism
  • the doctrine that the pursuit of pleasure is the highest good

2. the pursuit of pleasure as a matter of principle

3. indulgence in sensual pleasures

Oh, I understand the point you were hoping to make, [the 'slippery slope'], I just chose not to address it, as it's ridiculous - not worth getting in a fuss about. Fearmongering scare tactics, is all it is. Allowing gays to marry will not break down all the rules, opening marriage to people and pets, nor will it legitimize incest, but the horrible mental images they provoke are what you hope to encourage.
And I understand the definition of hedonism, quite well, thank you, and stand by my point: marriage is emphatically not about hedonism - it's about responsibility, and solemn vows made to the one person you hope to spend the rest of your life with.
The linking of gays wanting to marry and hedonism says that you don't understand the definition of hedonism, [or marriage, but I think you understand that], thus the Braniac twit. People who subscribe to a hedonistic 'lifestyle' don't want the responsibilities involved in taking solemn vows, much less demand them. I applaud those who want to be in a lifelong committed relationship, because that's the foundation of a family, [and the best chance for raising good kids], even if they are the same gender. And I believe the science and facts support that.
