While waiting for a driver to make a very late night pickup, I decided to try one of my own... so be gentle, I wrote it about 3AM
Sam Nicklaus owned a dinner in a neighboring community.
In an effort to make his employees look more professional, he purchased shirts with his restaurants logo embossed on them. The employees took pride in their shirts and did their best to always have an extra shirt at the restaurant in case they spilled anything on themselves.
The shirts were 100% cotton and Sam made certain that all employees knew that they must not place the shirts in a dryer or they would shrink.
Sam was known to make surprise visits to his restaurant to check on the business, and would check each employee’s appearance. Sam would not tolerate a messy company shirt. He had his cook fire several employees for failure to keep a clean shirt. He would simply scowl at the employee who had the dirty shirt, and the cook knew he had to fire the employee. The head cook and manger of Sam’s Diner was a Chinese man named
Sum Yun Guy who lived in the same town as Sam.
Sam was a man of habit and tried to set a good example and always washed his car before making his surprise visits.
Sum passed Sam’s house each day on the way to work and would look to see if Sam had washed his car, thus knowing which day Sam would make his surprise visit.
On his way to work this day Sum spotted the clean car at Sam’s house and knew that later today he would arrive at the restaurant.
Sam thought about the new assistant cook, who had provided so much help in the past few weeks. .
When Sum Yun Guy arrived at work that day he observed the new cook preparing onion rings when the rookie splattered the coating all over his shirt. Knowing that Sam would be there anytime Sum Yun Guy became very excited and said...
“OH! batter wash out, you batter not dry, you batter wash out, clean shirt then fry, Sam Nicklaus is coming to frown”
