Looking into Hot Shoting

Hello, I am a newbie to this forum..Have driven a truck for about 10 years and am interested in getting into the hotshot business..I am based out of the San Antonio/Corpus Christi area..Any ideas on where I can get info and who to maybe talk to?? I do not have the vehicle as of yet..I thought maybe I would drive for someone awhile and see if it was for me...Please, any info that would help would be greatly appreciated..Thanks, Tom

Tom, you are going to have to clarify what you consider being a hotshot is. If you are looking at expediting read and read and then read a little more on the forums and also in the Newbie FAQ area. If you are wanting to use a pickup and trailer we cannot help you much.

If it is a specific question, please feel free to email me. You are in a good area as alot of refinery loads go from Corpus over to the bayou. Keep in mind though, it is a competitive business like expediting.
Much easier to run for a company verses your own authority, or at least that has been my experience.

While it is "easier" to run for a company , it is far less profitable . Carriers expect you to deadhead too much to move loads from their customer base . The link I gave in the earlier post has nearly every member working under their own authority , many of them in Texas .

Hello Bob and Linda,

After going back and looking at your reply to my post, I noticed that you were with Fed/Ex Custom Critical..Are you aware of any opportunities with Fed/Ex in my area, with and or a lease purchase opportunitie?? If so who would we have to speak with?? And how hard is it to get envolved with this?? Thanks, Tom

FedEx Recruiting 1 800 944 8690 The recruiter for your area can give you all the information you are looking for. If you are wanting to drive for an owner they have a list, if you are wanting to buy a truck they also have a list of dealers. A class B CDL is required for a straight truck with air brakes.
