Looking for some training

Hi my name is morris i just turnt 21 and i am trying to get into the expediting industry.i don't have a cdl i wanted to see if i could tag along with someone to help out and learn the ropes of this wonderful industry.if you think you have the skill to pass down some of the knowledge you have call me and i'll be packed and ready

Some companies would only require you to get a class C. with a Hazmat endorsement or anything like that on your liscense. but starting out as a team in a cargo van wouldn't be a bad place to start...some companies don't even require you to have a commercial liscence to drive a van. Try contacting several recruiting departments from some of the fine companies that are listed on here. You could make some money while you are tagging along...It's not rocket science that's for sure. It takes a lot of patience because there could be several hours of downtime inbetween loads. U may want to consider bringing some sort of entertainment along...Ie....A playstion pocket, Nintendo DS, etc.

Several hours of downtime between loads? Sometimes those several hours turn in several days. Or ask tjp, hours into days, and days into weeks between loads.

suggest you go to a truck driving school or thru a local tech college if you want a cdl a or b. the class c, if needed by a carrier, for a cargo van is easily obtainable. don't know where you live or if a class c is available to you.

Hate to blow you out the water but at 21, it ain't gonna happen. Most carriers Require you to be 23 and have some kind of experince, as for riding along to be a helper, again most carriers have a no rider policy, you have to be signed on and approved to be even a rider.

An buddy, I actually started expediting at the age of 21 with a company outta Cambridge, Ontario Canada...call Dynamex...Give em a call...I'm 24 now...So it can be done with no experience...

I didn't say it couldn't be done, it not a easy road, and he wants to be a rider first and I've never see a carrier with a rider policy, personally He would be better to hook up with a couirier service for a few years, then move up to expediting,

Havent looked very hard have you? Panther has one, FECC had one when I was there, and Roberts had one, Con-way now had one....I know the last 2 dont really count, but these policies are there...all you have to do is ask about them.

I understand the guy's enthusiasm but "wonderful industry"?

I would seriously recommend this;

Look for a community college to go to and take your time getting a license before seeing what 'this' life is like. If you are inclined to travel the country and be a trucker, you may not like this work but one of the hundreds of other parts of the overall industry.

First of all this is my first day on this site. I worked for the government and was required to have a Class A CDL, however once the mission was over I didn,t see the need to renew. Now I would like to get in the expediting business, does anybody hire a 60 year old to drive a van or cargo with no experience?
