Looking for a good truck owner?? We found one!

I just wanted to take a second and share our good fortune and let anyone know (who's looking) about a great truck owner. I know how scary it can be starting a new career and there are a lot of owners out there that will just throw you the keys and say, "have a nice time" while they just sit back and take a percentage. I've been there! It's nerve racking, having to worry about fuel, wondering what loads are good...which ones are bad, figuring out good places to dead-head to (if need be), freaking out when you fill up with fuel and then your load dry runs! We tried to do it on our own...lasted about a year...and I'll be the first to admit, "we sucked at it"! Now, we have a truck owner (Terri and Charlee) that we talk to everyday...we decide on loads together. And no more worrying about fuel(or even tolls), they pay for that too! We get 40% of all loaded miles.

Any more questions feel free to email me!

BRAVO!!!! lisalewis!

Recognizing one's weaknesses frees you to focus on your strengths. Instead of trying to be the people you are not, you can instead be the people you are.

One of the wisest truck drivers I ever met on the road said of himself, "I suck as an owner operator." Realizing that, he returned to company driving and was as happy and productive as he has ever been. Congratulations on making the same breakthrough. All the best to you!

Just crunched some numbers.......with the owner I'm with now, on 2727 loaded miles, I stand to make 564.00 before taxes & escrow. My co-driver will make 496.00. He pays fuel & tolls, but add that up: 2727 loaded miles X 1.30= 3545.10. Subtract our pay, fuel & tolls, he stands to make $1850.00. Thats a truck payment, and then some, and thats just one week, not counting the fuel surchage he gets. Did I bump my head?

Reply to big Kurt...

Have you figured in the costs to run the truck per day that you do not see....fixed costs like insurance, satellite, etc? Then did you have any empty or deadhead miles at all? Are you buying fuel or is he? Any tolls? Any border crossings? Any idling time that he is buying fuel for? I know it costs us anywhere form 55-70 dollars a day for each truck just to have it...before the key is even turned. Our business plan calls for us to make 500$ per truck per week....the secret is not in making a ton of money of each truck but rather having a ton of trucks and making 500$ a week of oeach one as an average. I know that not all fleet owners have that plan...but I would still think he has a lot more costs than what you are seeing.

Thanks for the info.I've been doing this for a while, but forget some of the little things a truck owner must endure. I guess what I'm saying is, I believe I could be making more money than I am. With this owner, thats the only downfall. This person is very good to me, otherwise.....takes taxes out, provides low cost health insurance, workmans comp.......but to be gone for 3 weeks at a time, and sometimes only get a 100 dollar check is a bit discouraging. Not your problem, I understand, and if I were motivated, I would find another owner instead of complaining. But thats the thing: what if I leave this owner for someone else, and they're worse? I've heard too many horror stories of jumping owners, and getting a name for yourself in that regard. I'm in a quandry.....

It depends on what you are looking for...if you are actively researching your opportunities, do not be afraid to ask for references. Do not be afraid to ask for team revenues...I show people actual pay statements from the previous month for each truck...good bad and ugly. A good owner has NOTHING to hide. There is a difference between jumping owner to owner and taking the time to find a good fit. Many people get into this and have no clue what to look for and what is going to make a difference in their life on the road. We have lived on the road and know that our success lies in making certain that teams are compensated for all they give up to be out here. You may look around and decide your best fit is where you are at.....but at least you will be informed.

Not real sure why team drivers would not have the same gross, but using your numbers, you seem to be working for 30% of the gross, which seems to be 10% less than the norm.
