I am brand new and on with a carrier that has given me about 4000 miles the first month at 80 cents a mile, but with almost 3200 deadhead miles getting back out of Laredo and California. I am told I have to have 6 months experience under my belt before Landstar will talk to me. How do I stay out here with a new van payment if I cannot get on with someone who can land bids on jobs. I am willing to stay out months at a time without going home, but with a company that can give me more than 1000 miles a week. Landstar is where I want to end up at. With the computerized load board, I feel that takes out one less variable in the business. I can't see how 6 months of trying to keep my head above water with this carrier is going to make me a better or more dedicated driver for Landstar. I would like to make money for both of us right now.
Maybe speak with several different Co. Recruiters to see what they offer.Howdy y'all
Currently I have my Sprinters leased with two larger carriers (since I was unable to afford the astronomical insurance prices requested by Progressive/CIS when I was working with small carriers), but the miles offered by them are lately decreasing dramatically. Well, it's not that I'm going bankrupt, but the drivers need more miles, they need to drive, in order to have an worry-free income. Anyone can recommend me a better carrier that offers insurance and lots of miles?
I think your in for a big surprise if you think Landstar load board will help you. As was already was stated it is relationship building with the agents is where you will make your money. Also hazmat requirement along with at least a class b cdl. Landstar load board is mainly for the big trucks and those loads usually aren't the good paying loads those are for the ones who build relationships with the agents. I know personally be aye I was with them for 9 yrs.I am brand new and on with a carrier that has given me about 4000 miles the first month at 80 cents a mile, but with almost 3200 deadhead miles getting back out of Laredo and California. Yes I understand the sitting part we've done that the past couple of months! When we worked with Bolt Express and with Panther they had a costumer base so you were running on the weekend just seems with Try Hours when Friday rolls around there looking for Monday loadsall depends on your expectations and what YOU think expedite is all about and how loads come to be....OVER expectations are a brain freeze....the industry can only put out what the shippers put into the system...and IF you are not in the right spot, at the right time, with the right truck....U R going to sit....
Hello I just posted about who some would say is a good carrier to run for because of the sitting on the weekend ! When we came into the expedite world we started out that its all about the money what the load is paying and you got 40% of the load pay well that's what we get paid now but at $1.24 a mile and I know expedite is not going to make you rich but we did make good money with others expedite companiesThe major mistake i see in your statement is, where can i get miles instead of where can i make more. Drive less make more. To bad load One is not taking sprinters !!!!!!!!!
Seriously, Get out of " the miles " frame of mind !!!!!
So, what are you and your husband thinking of doing? In the Posts above this you sounded fairly satisfied with Panther and Bolt. Why did you leave THEM? Just wondering. I read what you've written and that you've been driving for 15 years (husband more of that). Sounds like you're mostly not happy about lack of loads on the weekends, but yet (no offense Intended here) you stated YOU HAD WEEKEND LOADS with Bolt & Panther whom you left? I wish you both luck in making your decision of a New Carrier. It's a tough one I'm sure and as you already know nothing is set in stone in Expediting with most any Carrier. Things can change and fluctuate. Last year I went thru all of my Monthly Home-Based Expenses and sacrificed some things and ways of life in order to reduce stress and income concerns. That helped immensely! Good Luck!Hello I just posted about who some would say is a good carrier to run for because of the sitting on the weekend ! Was with one owner that had another company helping with things and they didn't pay us the way the contract was it took weeks to get them to see what they were doing by then they company he had handling the people at Panther for him well let's just say they did things that were wrongThen why not go back to one you were making money with.
Its hard to explain with out telling a long story but it had to do with the people the owner had running his trucks at Painter and we are in good standings with both companies we just have to find a good owner that has a truck openSo, what are you and your husband thinking of doing? Sounds like you need to find an Owner who SOLELY takes loads from the Carrier. You then will be paid weekly or bi-weekly or whenever your Signed Contract with the Owner says. Make sure the Contract states you ONLY accept Loads thru Carrier's Dispatch. So you have now Contacted Bolt, Panther and other Recruiters to have them looking into finding you a Truck Owner to drive for?Its hard to explain with out telling a long story but it had to do with the people the owner had running his trucks at Painter and we are in good standings with both companies we just have to find a good owner that has a truck open
I've been with ceva log for 13 years they are great company to work for Richmond Va office is well run and well manage
we come and go as we please, we have home delivery, line haul, hot shots, ground, air cargo, and few other things we do, they all paid really well
one thing you have to no matter what company you work for you have to learn the system the ends and outs
of it
get to know dispatchers and others in company, be go to guy
6 month's is not long to learn system
I believe Geo is doing it locally... if you want OTR, CEVA ain't the carrier you're looking for. Nice people, the pay is good, but lots of deductions and not too many runs. I've been there...That is good to hear, tknight. Treadmill also recommended CEVA. I will talk with them when I get the chance.
