Why did the "Do you need more freight thread" get locked? This is supposed to be an "open forum" locking threads doesn't seem to be very open to me.

My guess would be that it had too many replies,honest!! There was a thread that got locked last year and that was the reason,too many replies. Go figure.

What is this supposed to mean? Seems like dodging the question to me.

It means that it was brought to a moderator's attention that there may have been something questionable in one or more posts. Therefore, being such a large thread, it was locked by a moderator until I came online to move it to our holding area, (The Truck Wash) for review.

This is an open forum but it is not an unmoderated forum. Posts should be written with language that anybody's 10 year old can read without learning new vocabulary the parents might not want them to learn. Posts should be written in a way that doesn't attack or denigrate any specific forum member. It's fine to disagree with an idea or viewpoint and to spell out an alternate. It's not fine to insult the other person in doing so. When a member's post falls outside those general guidelines of courtesy it gets reviewed and the thread is temporarily unavailable or removed if need be.

One of the reasons the EO Open Forum is one of the most respected and successful internet forums in the transportation industry is because the forum is moderated.
Over the years, several attempts have been made by people upset with EO to start a "real" open forum where the "truth" can be told. ALL of them have failed. That's because wherever total freedom of speech site exists on the internet, a chorus of idiots stream in, stink the place up and drown each other out; and the participants who have something positive to actually contribute simply go away.
The United States of America is a "free" country but laws also exist that require drivers to stay on the right side of the road. Without such laws, and officers to enforce them, and penalties for the violators, people would pile into each other and the roadways would become useless.
As it is on the road, so it is here.

The thread did have some useful information and as mentioned, is under review. It as well became repetive in certain posts with the promotion of individual businesses. If someone wants to advertise their business, they should put their ad in the classifieds or become a sponsor.
If we allow advertising in the forums, we then have everyone with something to sell in the forums.

I didn't mean t cause any discontent I was just curious. Next time I have a question like this I will pm a moderater and ask my question.

Arkjarhead, don’t hesitate to openly ask questions, it generates good discussions and sets EO apart from the other forums. Creating a tread like this to ask something allows us to find out what the boundaries are and allows the newbies see that EO is a good place to discuss issues.
I have a lot more to say I won't bore you all with that.
I would like to have the thread edit to remove the advertising but leave everything else in place, moved back to this forum and locked. It did have a lot of info I would like to learn about.

Unfortunately, this thread is now locked also, and has been edited for content. Let's leave the past in the past and move on. I beleive everyone understands why the original thread was locked. I will be replacing it without the advertising, as Greg mentioned.
