I think if dispatcher would do there job like they tell us they supposed to call you with every load if they do that then we would not have to worry about all the charges on phones and qc charges do you know what i mean this is just my thoughts !!!!!!

Well, yeah, they're supposed to call with every load offer (if you are out of truck on pager), but it's a time consuming process when you have to do that for hundreds of loads a day. The seconds add up. They call, wait for the phone to ring between 2-6 times, if you answer it great, if not they have to wait for the outgoing voicemail message to finish, then leave a message, then, because they are running out of time to cover the load, they have to do it all over again unless you've called them back right away.

A text message is much more efficient. The load offer goes out over the QC, and one-click sends a text message to your phone, and in a matter of a second or two all the bases are covered.

Except the nominal fee. :)

I don't think that they need to call every time for every offer but I can tell you they need to call if the truck is on the move or under load.

I can not tell you the amount of times I have had to pull over to look at the QC and respond to a predispatch offfer.

I know that they know (of can find out) the truck is moving but....safety first?

Just found out the nominal fee isn't all that nominal. $2 a week.

"You will also have a weekly deduction from your settlement for $2.00 which is the cost that QC charges us to host this program."

I can't help but ask if QC isn't charging Panther a total of $2 per week for the service, since that's about what it costs QC to provide it (if even that much, to be honest about it). Whether QC is charging Panther a total of $2 per week and then Panther is charging $2 per week per truck on top of that, or QC is actually charging Panther $2 per week per truck, either way it's astonishingly over priced, especially if you factor in the $35 per week we're already paying for the QC.

"Please note that if you have ever lost out on a load due to not being notified, capturing a single good load due to SMS messaging pays for itself for the year."

Sorry, nice try, but $104 a year, or more than $.40 per routine message (assuming an average of 5 per week) is way too much cost for the insurance needed in the hopes of capturing that one good load that might have been missed.

Flip that coin, and the increased efficiency in time saved to dispatch by not having to make phone calls for each load, plus the decrease in long distance phone charges, and it would pay for the entire system for a year within a week or two.

I like the sms system there are places where you have a lousy cell signal but a sms seams to always get through. And if i get 1 extra load a month it pays for it's self

Leo (or any other Panther o/o's that would care to respond),

What all data does Panther send on the text message load offers ?

Currently it's date/time/location of pickup and delivery, paid miles, rate and fsc. I'd like to see them add number of pieces and weight to it.
