John,
You should know better than that, never call a coney a 'chili dog'. A coney is a coney, a chili dog is ... well ... something else.

Greg,

To respond to your comments in the ASE thread, I will respond here. I don't like commenting in great detail when it is a thread involving another carrier. As well it is no secret that I will not use this forum to directly recruit. I am fine with building a good company name and reputation by being a long term contributor to this web site.

You are correct as far as the accessibility and value of technology. The market delivers more and more technology on simpler, and more cost effective platforms everyday. This has goods and bads to it. Sometimes the barriers to entry can be to low, such as when the credit markets allowed everyone and their brother to get in business no matter what their credit looked like. That flood of entries can be detrimental in creating an over supply in the market. As well new entrants have a tendency to not fully understand their own cost structures. We have lost bids to companies like this numerous times through out the years. We have been beat by rates that simply cannot be operated profitably. I would rather walk away than simply turn numbers. These companies or new entrants tend to have a limited shelf life. Especially in tighter credit markets where they can not properly fund their own growth and ongoing capital requirements. I have seen carriers who can not keep partner carriers paid on a timely basis, but yet spend money to grow. Growth uses and constricts cash flow. Often times growth can be the very factor that kills a company.

Technology has changed the game. Today small companies can compete on some levels with much larger players. This last 12 months we have spent more money on technology and hardware than asset based rolling stock. This is the first time in our company history that this has happened. It is amazing and fascinating how this industry continues to change and evolve.

John your a all around great guy. I have seen the great things you do for your staff and drivers. Anyone that lets a driver use a company truck for a few weeks because his owners truck is down. Then don't charge him one dime for running the truck is a great man in my book.

Thank you sir!!!!!

ABSOLUTELY!!! He has my vote for President. Oh wait!! He already is the President.

He should be voted into the Expediter's Hall of Fame as the industry's most accessible CEO.

Thank you John...
That is what I was trying to convey in the ASE thread....By simply marketing our services under the Volume driven business mode just devalues the business in itself...and it is very self serving...If this thinking spreads thru other carriers. it will be like a cancer...they are only feeding the cut rate frenzy that shippers have come to expect unfortunately...

I came to Load -1 because you operate not as lemming or follower...you indeed strive to improve our business not just for yourself but also your O/O's...

No, underdog77 is not a Load One unit. But you are right, I have to thank him. He started what has become the 6th most viewed thread ever on EO!!!!!

It is good to see an owner of an expedite company be involved here, and it seems that most are thrilled to be with your company, that is something to be proud of. Congratulations!

The problem with this thread from my standpoint is that there is way to much 'chit chat'. At least one poster asked a question that has been asked and answered already, but said he didn't want to go thru 30 pages of posts.
Almost ten percent mention OVM shorts. That was funny a year ago but it is really wearing thin.

What are the age limits at Load 1 for s/t? Sorry if I missed this question, but I couldn't read all 30 pages.

CHop

IF you are asking about the truck itself..... We prefer the unit to 7 years or newer. But we do not stick to this as a rock solid policy. The unit needs to pass an inspection in our shop, as well the unit must be good physical appearance.

I have seen 4 year old junk, and 8 year old trucks that were beautiful. So we try to apply common sense to it versus pure policy.

First of all thank you for the compliments. I am extremely lucky to have put together a really great team of people.

I agree 30 pages is a bit much to read if you are looking for just an answer to one question. A pm would have been faster, but I am on here regularly anyway so I am happy to answer. I guess if someone was looking at carriers a 30 page thread is a great resource. It serves as a better tool than a thread that has 2 guys that say "we worked there and it was OK", kind of thing. In 30 pages the good, the bad, the ugly, and yes even the shorts were discussed.

EO is a great web site. You have all of the links to most of the major carriers in one place. You can search, read, and get feedback from a number of different sources and individuals. So while chit chat can go on and on at times (OK, yes this thread is probably a record, lol), it is truly a better source than any advertisement or web site. You can not get a true feel for a company from an advertisement, or talking to a recruiter.

Hey John,

Do you have Solo O/O T/T's? If so...What about Solo Tractors as far as an age range? Any need? What would be an est on the avg load weight?

Thx

Update...The T/T question is for a driver buddy, he has a thing for the nicer older trucks.

Something very similar to this... ( He looked at it once, it is cherry...Not sure if still available, but I hope you get my meaning ) it falls outta the 7 year zone, but way inside your good/beautiful truck criteria.

1987 KENWORTH K100 Cabover Truck w/ Sleeper For Sale At TruckPaper.com

Your thoughts would be appreciated and I will pass them on...
Thx

Same is true on our tractor trailers as the straight trucks. This is obviolusly a very well kept vehicle by looking at the pictures. Assuming it was mechanically sound it would not only pass, but it would be pretty cool.

As for weight, I have to guess but I am thinking avg of around 35k.
