Well let's say we get offered a load at x.xx amount going 600 miles then another 250 miles at same rate. Or we can do a 2500 mile load at the same rate as above why would anyone not refuse the 2 and hold out for a long one. Especially if the way they are scheduled hold you up for 2 days when you can run the 2500 in 2 days?

Your right and that is a business decision you have to make. My question was why would someone say in one post to put on your big boy pants and make this decision regardless of company policy and then three posts later say you should be reprimanded for making that decision.

now i never said take all small loads. but there is nothing wrong with a variety and sometimes that small one you did shows good workmanship and you get rewarded with a long one. there is also civil communication with dispatch when you have done a short one and wish not to do multiple short ones. but this is expediting and you never know what will come next. i do however, understand your point about repetitiveness with some carriers.

because we are talking about two totally different reasons for turning down loads. one has to do strictly with business. the other has to do with thinking that you should only have to run 1000 plus mile loads. like running short loads is beneath oneself.

We do short ones but after 2 we are talking to dispatch about longer ones. It's all about the money for both parties at the same time. We do pretty good out here overall.

I think it was about a year or so ago that some panther drivers with their big boy pants on and making their own business decisions had their contracts terminated. I believe panther referred to their business decisions as cherry picking.

With the trucks that were let go, there were several other issues outside of that.
Primarily borrow money and safety issues. We turn down anything that isn't profitable. Maybe we are lucky and haven't been shown the door yet.;) If one doesn't like what they offer they can always book their own and not even worry about it.
