Live TV for PC

A fellow EO member sent me some info regarding livetvforpc.com.

They pitch a software program that allows you to watch TV on your PC via an internet connection.

I am always skeptical when I see offers that indicate the original price as being $399.00, but I can buy it now for $49.95. Hmmmmmm.

After looking at their web site, I found no information regarding their physical location; that also adds to my concerns.

If you know anything about this software, or this company, I would appreciate your input.

I will say thank you in advance for your assistance.

If it is anything like the one I bought, and the website sure looks familiar, don't waste your money. Some of the stations are radio stations and a lot of them the TV stations are uninteresting foreign (to me) stations.
I would wait for something better.

Like I never say, "If I would have saved that money, I probably would have bought something just as dumb."

I have a Slingbox. It hooks between the dish incoming cable and the control box. Mine uses the household wiring to get the signal to my router and through it to my laptop via the internet. I can watch anything that airs on the dish at home. If I had the fancy box with dvr in it I could dvr shows and watch them later. The only drawback is the tv connected in the room with the Slingbox has to be on the same channel. Mine is set up in a spare bedroom so it can always be on whatever I want (lots of speed channel, discovery, history and tlc) without keeping anyone else from watching what they want. It's a couple hundred dollars plus another hundred if you need the remote routing hardware so it costs more but it works well. Usually my Sprint aircard signal is good enough to get an adequate picture. I usually watch the 4" version which gets much better resolution but if I want to watch with my glasses off I make it full screen and it's still ok. I forget the website but if you google slingbox you'll get it.

Leo,

I am looking for something that I can use while on the road.

Cargo van is too small for a dish.

From your post it appears that a Slingbox requires a dish.

Leo,

I did go to the site and now I understand how it works.

We don't have cable at home, so it probably wouldn't be for me.

The Pinnicale TV system looks fairly simple, so I am leaning in that direction.

I do thank you for your input.

hey david try this out "Hauppauge's WinTV-USB external TV tuner" I used it on my old laptop, you will need a boomerang antenna or a batwing antenna or even good ol' rabbit ears. I prefer the batwing amplified HD & digital broadcast ready, thats what I got on my van the crank-up winguard amplified batwing runs 175.99 but its worth it I can sit at stoney ridge down the street from you and pick up analog and digital local brodcast signals from columbus,dayton,cincinnati,lexington-ky and richmond-in., for the crystal clear HD you usually got to be within 35-45 miles of the broadcast dish. hopes this helps

The "livetvforpc" thing isn't really a scam, but it's scummy just the same. All they do is collect links to Web sites and free software that allow you to watch live streaming video, some of it TV stations, and then, for a fee, present to you those links. You're paying for their hard work in having to use Google to find live broadcasts, most of which are probably listed on http://wwitc.com already.

I'll eventually be getting a crankup satellite dish.
