Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.?

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:

First, America has bee n the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.

Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.

Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.

Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks -- with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas -- to advance black a pplicants over white applicants.

Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and indiv iduals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude??

Barack talks about new 'ladders of opportunity' for blacks.

Let him go to Altoona?and Johnstown, and ask the white kids in Catholic schools how many were visited lately by Ivy League recruiters handing out scholarships for 'deserving' white kids.?

Is white America really responsible for the fact that the crime and incarceration rates for African-Americans are seven times those of white America? Is it really white America's fault that illegitimacy in the African-American community has hit 70 percent and the black dropout rate from high schools in some cities has reached 50 percent?

Is that the fault of white America or, first and foremost, a failure of the black c om munity itself?

As for racism, its ugliest manifestation is in interracial crime, and especially interracial crimes of violence. Is Barack Obama aware that while white criminals choose black victims 3 percent of the time, black criminals choose white victims 45 percent of the time?

Is Barack aware that black-on-white rapes are 100 times more common than the reverse, that black-on-white robberies were 139 times as common in the first three years of this decade as the reverse?

We have all heard adnauseam from the Rev. Al about Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case and Jena. And all turned out to be hoaxes. But about the epidemic of black assaults on whites that are real, we hear nothing.

Sorry, Barack, some of us have heard it all before, about 40 years and 40 trillion tax dollars ago.

louixo,

This is in no way an personal attack, (I have not been here for any length of time for that!:D) but just a few comments.

I'm just not sure of Buchanan's crime statistics, especially those concerning rape. According to the US Dept. of Justice's statistics for homicide:

From 1976 to 2005 --

* 86% of white victims were killed by whites
* 94% of black victims were killed by blacks

Bureau of Justice Statistics Homicide trends in the U.S.: Trends by race

And Rape:
From 2006 Statistics:
Number of cases of White Victims:194,270, with 50.6% committed by a White attacker.
Number of cases of Black Victims: 17,920, with 43.0% committed by a Black attacker.

The site also has crime statistics for almost any criminal act, from rape through purse snatching. And from the short glance I took, it looks like in almost every category, black on black and white on white crime is much more common.

Race is such a divisive issue, and bogus statistics just add fuel to the fire. Probably one of my proudest accomplishments is that fact that my wife and I have managed to raise "color blind" children. We rarely if ever mention race when speaking of others. My kids don't have "White friends" or "Black friends" or "Hispanic friends". They have friends, and that is the way it should be. (Oh, and I consider myself white, with most of my ancestors arriving here in the 1700's from England, Scotland and Germany. Of course there are a few (on both parent's sides) that were here much longer! Cherokee and others.)

And no, I am not an Obama supporter, or for that matter a McCain supporter. I will probably vote for McCain as I see him the lesser of two evils. (Possibly the only good outcome of McCain being elected would to be able to replace another activist judge on the Supreme Court with someone who has actually taken a look at the Constitution!)

Sadly, neither will bring very little of my personal political outlook to the White House. (I just want our government to work like it was intended.)

Jimby, I don`t know where Buchanan got his stats for the article, but I do agree with his point of view. In this election around 90 % of blacks are voting Obama. Those poll figures come from the mainstream media. That`s racism no matter how you cut it. No politician gets that kind of majority. The black community is voting color, not substance. They should be voting issues. That kind of thinking is divisive. If the white community voted the same way, the hue and cry of racism would be overwhelming. Blacks can have the NAACP, Black History Month, United Negro College Fund, Jet magazine, Black Entertainment Network, and on and on. Try changing the word black in those examples, and substitute the word white aka White Entertainment Network, etc. It would be labeled racist. We all wish that the world was squeaky clean, like you mention, with all our friends being just "friends". But this is the real world, and in the the real world we have racism. My point here is the election and the racist vote. I`m not trying to take on the topic of racism in general. I personally don`t advocate racism. Also, I don`t think you were attacking me personally. Your point is well taken from your point of view.

Thank you! I do see your point and I agree. Racism in any form is still racism, and is just not right. Black racism does exist and is every bit as ugly as white racism. If the polls are correct and 93% (last figure I saw) of black voters do in the end support Obama, I think it would be fair to say that race did play a part.

In the last few presidential elections, black voters have heavily supported the Democrats, and I don't think that would have changed this time even if Hillary would have been the nominee. Some of the black support, but not all, could be explained by the traditional preexisting Democratic leanings of black voters. According to some sources I have read, in 1964 94% of blacks voted for Johnson. There is precedence for such a lopsided result, but then those were different times.

93% in this day and age seems to me a "little" too much support. Really makes me wonder who the other 7% are.

Thanks again for your response. It's a nice change when you can actually discuss a topic without the anger that seems to pervade any political discussion these days. I just want this election to be over with. No matter who eventually wins the election, we as a country are going to have a great deal of work to do.

My wife is black and I'm white. She got more criticism from other blacks than I did from whites when we got married.

I am not black or white. I tend to lean towards a dark off-white. A bit darker in the summer if I am fishing a lot and once in while red if over-exposed to the sun. Layoutshooter

I agree with you Kwexpress. You see more white girls with
black babies that ever now. The black girls have more babies
to increase their welfare check.
