lift axles lift gates

Hello:

I was reading posts and I keep seeing lift axles and lift gate. I am lost are they the same. I worked at Pepsi and I loaded trucks with lift gates that was for the driver could unload the sodas at the store with no docks. I never ran into anyone saying lift axle. I read in a post about you can make more with lift axles but I have seen trucks that one set of wheels could lifted. I was thinking that was for to save money and fuel or tires. If I don't have a glue tell me........

Not sure about how they're used in the application you're talking about but, here in the south, we use them a lot on dump trucks...also known as "pony axles" where I come from. Mostly they're used here to maimize weight you can legally haul and to avoid high tolls on bridges and such...if you have just 2 axles down in VA you pay the same toll as a 4 wheeler, anything more and they increase substantially

You are talking about two different things.

Our lift gate is used when there in not a dock. We can unload anywhere any time.

We have a pusher axle which is a liftable dead axle that sits in front of our drive axle. If the axle sits behind the drive axle it is called a tag axle.

We use our axle so that we can haul 13,000 lbs which is what FedEx requires us to haul as a D unit.

With our axle up we can only haul about 5,000 lbs legally.
