If I got to feed it,,do I really need it? I still got my 4th grade dictionary, that was 1956 , life was simple, those words are not in it. Life was not as stupid as it is today, amen. They didnt cuff u for having a pocket knife at school or put cuffs on you for writing on ur desk......we have lost our minds in these last days.........

That would not be in the 4th grade dictionary today either, it was a college level dictionary. You are right though, we have lost it overall. Silly silly actions these days.

I was going to suggest that an 'age appropriate' dictionary might solve the problem, till I remembered the 6 yr old girl sitting next to me when I got my hair cut last week: she was getting a heavy blonde streak in her dark hair redone. Then she asked about waxing, as she didn't want to walk around with a unibrow... I bet SHE didn't need to look up the definition of oral sex!
I don't envy teachers these days, and don't think a whole lot of parents have their heads on straight, either. Which makes home schooling a whole nother can of worms....

Why hold back a child that is able to read and work at higher levels? I was working in a college dictionary in 4th grade. So are many other kids. This entire mess is silly. The very few that might accidently bump into that can be talked with. Of course, what about all the other words, like intercourse etc. Parents should have been talking to their kids and sex and morals from day one anyway. My goodness, chances are they have a pretty good idea by that age anyway. The chances are greater if the kid is able to work in a book of that level at that age.
