He sounds like a fantastic role model. You'll always treasure the time spent with him.

Leo;

Thanks for all of your support on the EO forums.

I always enjoy seeing you and your dad at the Expo.

Thanks everyone. I hope my dad makes at least one more expo with me but I really don't think he will get out that much anymore. I will be seeing him more often, as much as circumstances allow. I will still be around here too, just not quite as much. I'll make up for the reduction in amount by increasing the grouchiness when I'm around. :D

A few anal orifices have opined that my quitting as a moderator was to avoid being thrown out and that I'm using my dad as an excuse to save face. You really can't expect anything better from those who spend countless hours slandering individuals with false accusations of their sexual preference and stealing intellectual property. I just hope I have the chance to personally share with them some of what I've learned about adult incontinence supplies, hopefully by ramming a used one down their throat. I sincerely hope no one has the opportunity to experience and learn all these various things with anyone they love. It's quite a challenge seeing a man who was healthy and strapping a few months earlier that has to have help to stand up to move from chair to wheelchair to make it to the table for lunch. Spend as much time as you can with those you care for while you are both able to enjoy it.

It is quite a challenge, Leo, and I can appreciate what you're going through and feeling. I'm doing much the same as primary care-giver for an 83yr old mother.

It tears your heart out sometimes to watch the changes, sometimes within a day, and the extreme ups and downs they go through. The frustration of still wanting to do things they've always done but their bodies won't let them, other times the weakness and instability from meds and incontinence. Endless doctor's appointments, repeated conversations, being on-call continually, etc. It all sort of just comes back around, doesn't it. . .they took care of us and our needs when we were infants, and now we do much the same for them as they age and their bodies give out.

If it helps at all, I'd be happy to give you my number or email address, if you want to talk about anything or just let off steam. I appreciate your help in the forums.

Hang in there. There is no part of your circumstances that are easy. We have a elderly family member as well that is kind of in the same situation. Thankfully we have many family members that can rotate the time with him. While it can certainly be a challenge at times, make the most out of your time together.

No one but you knows what needs to be done. Don't worry about those that are so petty. Enjoy you dad while you can.

As they say, 'haters gonna hate' - give it the weight it deserves.

I just hope I have the chance to personally share with them some of what I've learned about adult incontinence supplies, hopefully by ramming a used one down their throat.

I've walked a mile in your shoes, and would wish most of all that you and your Dad are blessed with as much dignity as possible.
There's no dignity in ugliness.

I sincerely hope no one has the opportunity to experience and learn all these various things with anyone they love. And try giving flowers [even metaphorically, as in sincere praise] before the funeral - it feels much better. :(
This last bit isn't just for Leo - it's a reminder to all, including myself.

I would only wish I had a father to care for ... mine abandonded me and my mother at my ripe old age of 8 months.

Care for your family, it is all we can do ..... and do it with a smile .... though it may be ripping your heart out!

I'm not sure who was concerned for your leaving, instead of being "thrown out", but what the hell do thay know? And why would it matter ..... seems to me moderating is something you do because you chose to ...... or not!

Lord, strengthen Leo in what he has to do.

And Leo, to quote the great Irish philosopher Paul Hewson (aka Bono): "Don't let the b*****ds grind you down".

That is all.

Leo, ignore the asswipes and just do what you gotta do!

This will be one of your finest moments (trust me I know) and no one can ever take that away from you.
It will be difficult but one day (soon) you will find that you were the go to guy and from a father to a son it is the highest honor.
Regards,
