I stand by comments from this morning. His staff blew it by not identifying the the age of the daughter in tow.I stand with him in his clarification of what many(3) of us were saying all along. The joke was in bad taste,no question, but the child molester inferences coming from the Palins is short circuiting her future.
She needs to get over it,and soon, for the sake of her party.

Based on the quotes right there in the article, yeah, I'll stand there right with him. My comments on this all along are consistent, as well as being consistent with the statements in the article, including where he said, "It's not your fault that it was misunderstood, it's my fault that it was misunderstood."

Still, I guarantee you, there will be some who think he said all this to keep from getting fired, or worse, for ratings, and that the joke really was about the 14 year old all along. Betcha.

Isn't that why most high profile ppl apologize? It's not for me to judge if his apology was sincere, but the ppl whom he offended.

I have no idea what his motives were. I know his ratings the last two nights of last week were sky high, tho.

What are you saying? You think it may be manufactured controversy?

Back to what I said last week. He is in trouble ratings wise again Leno. Leno is coming this fall to steal a big portion of the advertisers. They are beating that drum already and he hasn't done a show yet in that time slot.
But give Dave credit. He FINALLY came around.
NEW YORK – David Letterman says his joke about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's daughter was a lousy joke, no matter how you cut it, and he's sorry.

But the late-night host insists that what's got people outraged is the misunderstanding over which Palin daughter the joke was about.

On Monday's edition of "Late Show," Letterman explains that the risque joke thought by some to have targeted Palin's underage daughter, Willow, was actually intended for 18-year-old daughter Bristol. The name of the daughter wasn't mentioned in the joke, which was part of Letterman's monologue on last Monday's show.

"It's not your fault that it was misunderstood," he tells his audience. "It's my fault." And he says he'll try to do better.

Now he just needs to call the Palins and say the same thing.

If that article accurately reflects what he said then this time he actually apologized. Nobody can know the intent of the joke, only the perception of the joke to those who aren't insiders to MLB and/or NYC. What was written was a presumably sincere apology that took ownership of the mistake and didn't pad it with tangential jokes and fluff. If the entire text matches the excerpt then good for him, he did the right thing this time.

Mark levin read the complete text of the apology and it was lengthly...he did a good job owning and said he would feel the same way as palin if he were her, i would have been upset... now do i think it was real? yea, but it wouldn't of happened without "heat" from other places....

as far as palin being hurt by her comments about him, lol 99% of the mothers in the country are in her corner, she did what any of them would have done and said,,,,she has nothing to worry about....

Here's one for you hawk. This was a huge master plan conceived by Mark Burnett to get talk and hype going on about Palin before he announces his new reality show, Hangin' with the Palin's(I should copyright that). All I know is that I would tune in, can you imagine the going's on in that household.....this would be the best reality show ever.

How can something be not even funny and make you chuckle? You're a walking contradiction of terms, witness. LOL

When you can actually add to the THOUGHT process of debate, I'll start taking you seriously. Until then, drone on, my friend.

You are right, its not funny, its actually quite sad that you are so predictable.

In this thread what are debating? How about we debate on if Palin should owe Letterman an apology for calling him a pedophile, just throwin' it out there.

Quite sad, huh? Well that's in your own mind, which doesn't cause me concern in the least. So my answer to you calling me predictable is me calling you empty of any original thought. I look forward to you proving me wrong.

If you think you could make the case, go for it. I'm not stopping you.

What is sad is reading the other thread with this and the folks that for some reason decided to defend Letterman. I wasn't here over the weekend so I didn't respond.
I could care less whether one is a democratic or republican.
But it was foolish for some of the comments I read.
Finally he saw how ridiculous he was, and apologized.
If this joke came from someone else that wasn't a democrat, this when have been like the end of the world.
So folks on the left, yes..........there is a media double standard.
Even Letterman has finally acknowledged that.

For those doubting Thomases who said e-mails and boycotts of Letterman's sponsors would be insignificant:

Letterman's Palin Joke Costs CBS an Advertiser, Spawns Campaign for His Firing
By Tim Molloy Mon Jun 15, 1:30 PM PDT

David Letterman's comments about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin and one of her daughters has prompted a hotel chain to pull its advertising on CBS' website — and spawned a campaign to fire the Late Show host that includes a planned protest outside his studio.

Embassy Suites, part of the Hilton Hotels Corp., pulled advertising on CBS' site because of complaints, company spokeswoman Kendra Walker told TVGuide.com. The company was not an advertiser on Late Night with David Letterman.

"We received lots of e-mails from concerned guests and we assessed that the statement that he made was offensive enough to our guests and prospective guests that we elected to take the ads down," Walker said.

CBS did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

Letterman joked last week about Palin's daughter being "knocked up" by Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. He later clarified that he was referring to 18-year-old Bristol Palin — who, he said "was knocked up." But the Palin family and Letterman critics said he was referring to the governor's 14-year-old daughter, Willow, who attended the Yankees game with her mother.

"It's a disgraceful comment and it needs to be stopped," said Michael Patrick Leahy, one of the organizers of the "Fire David Letterman" campaign. "It is totally inappropriate and disgraceful for a 62-year-old man to sexually insult a 14-year-old girl, period. These comments are more egregious than those of Don Imus, and CBS fired him for those comments."

Leahy, who also helped organize the anti-tax "tea parties" in cities across the country earlier this year, estimated anywhere from 50 to 300 people would attend a protest planned outside Letterman's studio in New York City on Tuesday.

The campaign has also urged advertisers, including Embassy Suites, to pull their ads.

What do you think? Should Letterman be fired?

Still wondering about the motivation for his REAL apology? And to think, I've only gone without M&M's Peanuts for less than a week.
