January is here and man is it slow. Ive been at this since Nov05. Im still with my 1st carrier Expresway Saline Mi. During Layovers it gives me time to wonder "Am I smart to stay with them, or should I seek greener pastures".
So heres my plan. I am going to rate my carrier, in hopes that others will honestly rate theirs. Hopefully this will help others (and myself) make a good business decision, and maybe carriers will read what we think and take action. (OK IM AN OPTIMIST)
Please include the type of vehicle you drive, your likes, dislikes , were their promises kept? , avg miles per week, money you gross, deadhead pay, cpm and or anything you want.
EXPRESSWAY INC. SALINE MICH.
I drive a straight truck with a 20 ft box, load capacity 9250.
LIKES: Great people, from management to dispatchers everyone is a pleasure to work with.I know all the dispatchers not just by name but by their voice.Freedom to turn down loads get home whenever you want no hassle paperwork,no qualcom (BIG BROTHER). Direct deposit. No Hazmat, No Canada.
DISLIKES:I only have 1. That is the ability to keep me moving. Maybe my expectations are too high? I average a little over$2,000 per week.My 1099 for 06 is $102,000. I took 2 wks off around 4th of July, but otherwise I have been mostly in service. This company is very strong locally, but seem to have trouble when I get far from home. I have waited in Tampa for 8 days (actually started moving after 5 days arrived on a Fri in feb06 and headed north on wed evening then deadheading back to Michigan Saturday night, from mid Georgia)I almost quit I was so mad. Thats my worst story for over a year. Had a few 5 day waits Buffalo, Baltimore,Dallas,Phoenix, and Kansas city.
PROMISES KEPT:I would have to say yes , at least to the best of my knowledge, they have never made any outlandish guarantees. Basically they say they do the best they can to make money for all.
PAY:1.20 per loaded mile or 65% of gross on a local usually billed at 150.00 or so. 100% of fuel surcharges although they discount these to some regular customers(that irritates me)Deadhead pay is 35cts per mile but only over 100. 1st 100 is nothing. Typical I think.
So people please let me know
Am I doing good fair or do I need to make a move and do carriers really average 2200 loaded miles per week? This is what Transtewart told me was their avg.
