Lets Rate Our Carriers

January is here and man is it slow. Ive been at this since Nov05. Im still with my 1st carrier Expresway Saline Mi. During Layovers it gives me time to wonder "Am I smart to stay with them, or should I seek greener pastures".

So heres my plan. I am going to rate my carrier, in hopes that others will honestly rate theirs. Hopefully this will help others (and myself) make a good business decision, and maybe carriers will read what we think and take action. (OK IM AN OPTIMIST)

Please include the type of vehicle you drive, your likes, dislikes , were their promises kept? , avg miles per week, money you gross, deadhead pay, cpm and or anything you want.

EXPRESSWAY INC. SALINE MICH.
I drive a straight truck with a 20 ft box, load capacity 9250.
LIKES: Great people, from management to dispatchers everyone is a pleasure to work with.I know all the dispatchers not just by name but by their voice.Freedom to turn down loads get home whenever you want no hassle paperwork,no qualcom (BIG BROTHER). Direct deposit. No Hazmat, No Canada.

DISLIKES:I only have 1. That is the ability to keep me moving. Maybe my expectations are too high? I average a little over$2,000 per week.My 1099 for 06 is $102,000. I took 2 wks off around 4th of July, but otherwise I have been mostly in service. This company is very strong locally, but seem to have trouble when I get far from home. I have waited in Tampa for 8 days (actually started moving after 5 days arrived on a Fri in feb06 and headed north on wed evening then deadheading back to Michigan Saturday night, from mid Georgia)I almost quit I was so mad. Thats my worst story for over a year. Had a few 5 day waits Buffalo, Baltimore,Dallas,Phoenix, and Kansas city.

PROMISES KEPT:I would have to say yes , at least to the best of my knowledge, they have never made any outlandish guarantees. Basically they say they do the best they can to make money for all.

PAY:1.20 per loaded mile or 65% of gross on a local usually billed at 150.00 or so. 100% of fuel surcharges although they discount these to some regular customers(that irritates me)Deadhead pay is 35cts per mile but only over 100. 1st 100 is nothing. Typical I think.

So people please let me know

Am I doing good fair or do I need to make a move and do carriers really average 2200 loaded miles per week? This is what Transtewart told me was their avg.

Its Thursday evening payroll time so I won't give a long answer but.......

I've got trucks with FCC and Eagle Global Logistics and love working with both of them!

Neither is perfect but they are a perfect fit for me.

Looking at your 1099 figure and everything else UnderCDL, I can say that you are doing very well for your size of truck. I know sometimes, well most of the time the waiting around can be boring but you will likely encounter that no matter where you go as far as expediting. When you sit back and look at the whole picture at year's end as you did, you are looking pretty good. Would rather be where you are at rather than making a few thousand more at some place with people you hate forcing you to run loads you hate running. Mudflap

FEDEX Custom Critical

We have only leased to FedEx CC. I have leased on with them One B-unit and one D-unit. I can honestly say everything they had told me has been true. Actually we have done better then FedEx CC has projected we would do. Hope this helps.
God bless our Military and Vets.

boy, this is a tough one. I'm a solo D unit based just north of aubrurn hills and I know rod and matt over there, and i've been sooo tempted to sign on there, but, they don't offer a fuel card, and thats a tough one for me right now. I'll be honest, i've been with landstar since june 15 06 and i've only grossed $55,000. I've been available 24-7,but find myself sitting an awful lot.Usually over the week-ends and typically just far enough away from home that it does'nt make sense to dead-head. I try not to sit for more than two days, and communicate with the agents and my coordinator and do try to find the traffic lanes, but,so much of that is merely speculation and does'nt always work out. They tout their computer programs and load boards as being these fantastic tools, but, honestly, they're just not that helpful. They show you how many trucks are in your area and how many loads have gone out of that area, but, i find that subjective,(meaning that maybe 5 loads came out this week, which is great only if there were only 5 trucks in that area this week...if there were 22 trucks in that area this week then...) they pay pretty good rates mostly, but, there are some dogs. It's usually somewhere between $1.30 and $1.80 (thats including the fsc). They have pretty high standards and don't except just anyone, but they seem convinced, and are determined to convince me that they're worth it.They insist you carry a form of workmans comp. That plus the qual-com and the insurance means i fork over about 85 bucks a week :( They are generally nice people but they do expect alot from you. there is no baby sitting or hand holding, i mean, you're pretty much on your own.But they have picnics and cook-outs and carnivals and truck give aways and tire raffles and food at the safety meetings and showers at some of the agent centers,(theres like 60 of them through-out the U.S.)They'll put 35% of the gross revenue on your comdata card as soon as your loaded. your load offers come over the phone and there is never any pressure to accept any load. there are no penaltys for not taking a load,or for not being in service at any given time. once you accept a load everythings pretty much handled over the qualcom and you are left alone. If you have a problem or are running behind though, you need to communicate that to them, cause they do not look over your shoulder. But their whole schtick about being able to run the freight that you want, when you want...well...thats a gross exageration. If you excersise your right to turn something down, well, who knows when and what your next offer might be,and with as little freight that i've seen...lets just say theres been little turning down of loads:+

Monday to Friday I give Panther a 10 over the weekend that goes down to a 7.5
Some times I think when the big cats are away the kittens like to play and if Panther does not stop this its going to be their downfall in the end.

We all lease or work for what we feel is the best company,or we wouldn't be here.
Myself.I've had my contract terminated twice,but I'm like a bad penny.FedEx c c cant get rid of me,and I've been to other expedite companies,so I can compare.
No one is going to get along with every dispatcher,no matter where they work, your going to have the good loads, and the what you feel are the bad loads, but in all,if the company at the end of the month, still makes you smile, then its a good place to be.
Even if you hate where you are,if your bills are getting paid,it can't be all bad.
So with that,I give FedEx Custom Critical The number one rating,we may no longer be the biggest, but we are the best.

Panther is the only expediting carrier I've (been) leased to. I've read a lot of threads about leasors and am convinced that one is happy in their situation only if they trust their carrier. I trust Panther. At this moment I am sitting in PA waiting for my pickup on Monday. I accepted this load Friday afternoon. I could have refused the load hoping for a load to carry me through the weekend but I've been divorced twice so I know (BIRD IN THE HAND)one gets paid for miles not for smiles.
Point is Panther_Art " If your climbing a tree you have to trust the stenghth of the lower branches to get to the top.

To accurately rate your carrier, I think you need to judge them upon a yearly time frame. After being with RoboFedex for 10 years, I started with Panther in Sept. 06. The first 3 months were the most profitable I've ever had in my whole trucking career with a solo van. I actually grossed over 3K per week twice in that time span. BUT - I know that was mostly because of luck, right place, right time, the "newbie" advantage and the "busy season". Jan 07 came around and my revenue dropped off to 1K or so gross a week. So, by Sept 07, I guess I can accurately rate Panther. Judging them or any expediting company on a weekly or monthly instance is kinda foolish!!
If Panther actually does limit our loads to 500 miles, so said to me by a dispatcher.. err.. CSR... then my "rating" with them will be skeewwered just a bit!!!

You also have to prune the weaker branches to make that tree stronger.
And as far as taking a load on friday to be picked up on Monday and taking your self off the board thats a matter of chose, but don't kick your self in the butt when another panther truck pulls in and gets that 1200 mile load because a shipper just called and had a late call for a load going to Texas or somewhere.
I always say if nothing comes up by Sunday I will do the load and 9 times out of 10 I get the load offer on Sunday if nothing else comes up that keeps me available for anything that may come up.

And I don't know how long you been with Panther but if you believe that doing little favors it will get you to the top dream on.

CDL, I'm a little confused. You said you only had one complaint about your carrier. Not enough miles. BUT then you admit you turn down loads, solo driver, under CDL, and you still made OVER $100,000.00. I'm sorry call me stupid but I don't see a problem. You made over $100,000.00 you had to have loads from different areas than just the locale area of the company you drive. But then again 65% of $150.00 plus fuel surcharges would be great too. Think about it, if you did 5 of those a day for 5 days, with fuel surcharge, thats over $2000.00 a week, and your home everyday. Doesn't sound bad to me.

Been with Panther for 4 yrs with a T/T We rate them a 1...... 1 for 1st class and opportunity to make a good honest living out in this jungle. Yes they are big and yes there are things we don't like but all and all we do very well. But then you are not doing bad either. It's ok to have to go home for anger management and think things thru. You come back out feeling a whole lot better about the big picture. Good Luck!!!!

my husband and i have been running with tri-state for alittle while now. things are slow for everyone , but i don t think we will be with them for long after the memo we received with our pay statement the other day. " effective march 1,2007 tri-state will begin charging a 5% administrative fee on all advances issued thru comdata." its to help offset the interest rates tri-state incurs making these advances available. this includes using you com-data card for fuel, pms, cash advances,ect............!!!!! these fees could add up to 500.00 to 1,000.00 dollars or more per month off your revenue!!! a thousand a month would pay my house and car payment. there fore i wanted to give everyone out there the heads up on some of the hidden cost tri-state is implicating. may God Bess us all

you ask an honest question
i will give you an honest answer
