One hour and 55 minutes after receiving this Q.C. message: http://www.expeditersonline.com/forum/general-expediter-forum/51540-urgent-q-c-message.html I got this message from a different person: HELLO. JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF YOU WANTED TO GO ON HOME TYME™ FOR UP COMING HOLIDAY OR IF YOU WANT TO RUN THROUGH THE HOLIDAYS? WANT TO TAKE MINIS ONLY? DO YOU NEED TO GO A CERTAIN DIRECTION? WHAT MINIUMU (sic) DOLLAR AMOUNT ARE YOU WILL (sic) TO RUN FOR TO GO IN THAT DIRECTION.

It appears that who ever will run a load toward home for the lowest rate gets a paid trip home. I'll start the cargo van bidding off with a $1.75/mile, being that nobody wants to go to Minnesota. Do I hear a buck sixty, a buck sixty....

We have a truck on Home time for FL in TN. I wonder if the same geographically challanged moron that is sending us every load to a northern state sent this memo? Can't seem to understand that Orlando is not a suburb of Detroit.

You always say you can find your own loads at panther so why do you have a truck on home time? Why not just load it yourself and get them home.

Just because he can book his own loads doesn't mean there is freight going near the drivers home. Also in some cases backhauls pay less than a company brokered load.

From that location, historically they (Panther) has numerous loads going down to FL. Yesterday afternoon, it wasn't meant to be. Plenty of loads, all going the wrong direction. We could and still can book a load down there. When looking in the afternoon, the only decent paying ones were full trailer loads.
Always makes sense to use both resources especially when doing something directional.
We have today, so we will see how it goes.

I had a load offer yesterday right after getting home from running 2 shortys. Ready NOW Cedar Falls, Ia. to Penn. direct over 800 miles ROUTED across 3 toll roads and they said it would only pay me 95 cents a mile. I said normally i would do it BUT because of upcoming holiday and storm going across I WANTED $ 250. extra for gas coming back towards HOME. by Christmas. CUSTOMER would NOT pay any extra on load, SO i said I'm home now and NO THANK YOU AND MERRY CHRISTMAS, please call again I'm in service. :)

Good call....one thing I've learned in all my years...there is always another load out there....It is not the miles...it is all about the money...drive less, make more...

If they cut down them cargo van rates any more the whole forest of rates is going to be gone lol.

Maybe if we each carried a spotted owl with us we can can get some federal protection for our rates. We also need drivers that consistantly take low rate loads to have their van stickered with a "No Brain On Board" sign. Then have a special parking spot for them at all truck stops, right next to the cattle haulers.

I have officially dropped out of the lowball van bidding process. I delivered a $1.19/mile load to Fond du Lac and ate the 296 mile deadhead home.
