Well as of today there is a differing opinion in the congress.
As mentioned the repubs want to drill for oil where they can to help the country but the house democrats are saying no to drilling in 'protected' areas. Pelosi has been so clear on this that she said the following;
"This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration”
AND
“It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”
OK their policies?
As matter of fact as T-Hawk has pointed out since the congress has become democratic, the congress has done everything to stop us from using domestic supplies which has been one of the key issues to high prices.
But here is a catch to all of this, the democrats are now feeling the pinch from those horrible people - the constituents. The Democrats in congress, led by Harry Reid were clear that there is no NO in the picture and if the senate gets enough push from those horrible people, the constituents, we may see the senate lead the way to open up our waters that belong to us not the congress for drilling if not other areas of our land.
NOW you got to also know that Pelosi and a number of democrats in denial have been working on a plan to help all of us, this plan so far does not include any gas tax 'holiday', does not include drilling and does not include anything of substance as a matter of fact. What it does include which is rather odd, is forcing oil companies to drill in lands that they already hold leases in or lose the rights to those lands at the same time not stopping lawsuits (like the one in Montana) that prevents them from drilling. It also includes the the ban on exporting US sourced oil (which is a great idea), completing the Alaskan pipeline (which I thought was done) and force the BLM to speed up oil lease process (which I would rather see them speed up the solar land lease process).
But when you look at the larger picture, I know that the repubs don't seem to care, they are for things that the dems are against with us in the middle.
So I think of it this way I have to be objective when I tell my representative who I want to see in the WH. But when it comes down to it, I also want to remind my representative that he serves me for two years and that he should not get too comfortable in the position at all because of the following statement. The people this time around are so clear that they are representing the party that it is a no brainer for me. Based on the dems performance on one issue alone - oil - it is an easy decision but the following helps reinforce it.
"Two years ago, Speaker Pelosi promised the American people that the Democrats had a 'common-sense plan' to lower rising gas prices. Not only haven't we seen this plan, but prices have soared by $1.27 since Representative Pelosi became speaker," said House Minority Leader John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican.
