Leaky Wheel Seal

Yesterday, while dead heading to our pick up, we stopped at a rest area and noticed oil on our drive tire. It wasn't there during our pre trip inspection.
Crawling under the truck we discovered the entire inside of the wheel and brakes were coated in oil.
We drove it 60 miles to the TA in Bloomington, OH and had the seal and brakes replaced. It took about 2 hours and cost $256.
Had we not noticed the oil things would have gotten way worse.
Loss of brakes on that wheel or total loss of oil causing the entire axle and differential to need replacing.
Moral to the story: Whenever you stop walk around the truck and look for anything unusual.

That's says a lot. Most newer drivers might check their truck in the morning than never again that day. That could have really cost you had you ignored it and the hub ran dry and the wheels took off and passed you going down the road. That could be really embarrassing.
