As being from Canada I was forced to speak French in our school system because it is a "legal language" in our constitution.
Now that I am here I WILL not speak Spanish or mexican whatever they call it or as the phone says "option 2" Its not a "legal language" not recognized by legislation. English or American is the one and only language for legal purposes...

If the illegals were deported it wouldn't even be an issue!

Besides 12 million illegals is one heck of an army should they all revolt wouldn't ya say?
All residents should be accounted for..either they be legal or be gone...NO Amnesty!

OVM,
The first problem there was an assumption that English would be the de facto language of the nation forever seeing both Canada and the US were colonies of Great Britian so there was no need to add anything to the consitution to establish a national language.

But now we have a political machine that is afraid of the minority which is caused by the fact that the country was not ever ever intended to be a democracy but a republic. This problem of fear of a backlash of being racist (not the right term) and not compasionate prevents the right thing from happening. Beside this, the politicians are allowing people to become their own culture within our own culture and destroying our national identity and unity.

We, the US are one of a very few countries who does not have an official which is cuts into our national identity and pride. Even China in 1911, Germany and Italy during the unification of those countries and every country that had any sort of power in history had an official language. Some, like the swiss and Indian has multiple offical languages.

It goes beyond press 2 for english....
