You will like Landstar better than ConwayNow, which you have just left. You will have an adjustment period of getting used to working with agents rather than central dispatch. Be sure you have a cell phone plan with lots of anytime/anyplace minutes.

I left LEA last October when freight dried up, so I don't know how they are now. For a team they certainly are better than ConwayNow. If you get a trip west, you are likely to get freight in the west--some drivers would spend a couple of weeks up and down the coast before getting a load back east. With Conway you needed to deadhead east.

I am based in Detroit, so I got a lot of business out of the Detroit agent. Others which were good for me were: Grand Rapids
(had long loads), Omaha (John & Elaine are former drivers), Atlanta, Charlotte.

The safety dept seems to have a lot of power in LEA.

my wife and i have been with LEA since dec. '96. first 3 years
were very good. last two, freight has been less and less each
month. we will be leaving LEA at the end of June. it has become
totally unprofitable to run for them. Too many of their agents
own their own trucking companies. LEA has set it up whereas
an agent can outsource a load for up to 85% of the gross, but
has to only pay a LEA truck 62%. When the agent owns the co.
he is outsourcing to, he makes more money than using a co. truck.

Corporate LEA says the agents have sold all of their own trucks.
they sold them to another company that they own.

As a whole their are many very nice people associated with LEA,
but as a BCO(owner-operator) you need profit more than you need
friends.
