Lake Agassiz Re-Visited

Lake Agassiz has returned from the dead. I-29 between the border and Pembina, ND still has about 39 centimeters of water covering it.

Manitoba Highway 75 to Winnipeg is closed at Letellier resulting in a scenic detour adding 84 kilometers to the trip to Winnipeg, eh!

I sound so intelligent when I speak metric; eh hosers!

Jean-Claude Johnson, Minister de Agriculture Manitoba announced that the traditional crops; potatoes, sugar beets and wheat will not be planted this spring. Watercress, rice and seaf*ckingweed are the new cash crops. Ooops, sorry about that. I thought I was posting in the "F Word" thread. Stir fry anyone? Chow menu?

Beef and dairy cattle have been trucked out west and are being replaced by catfish, the other white meat. Saukie Pierre, Minister de Fisheries said Friday: "ya we kinda missed the boat with this catfish thing eh, what with Lent passing us over and all dat stuff".

High water and flooding can occur with little or no warning. I implore all expediters to practice the High Water Reaction Drill. Find a lake, swimming pool or other large, deep body of water. Using a tape measure, check and note at what depth water enters the cab and cargo box. Record your findings and store in a cool dry place. Have a U.S. Coast Guard approved P.F.D. on board for every driver and passenger. Don't forget a P.F.D. for your pets. The D.O.T. issues P.F.D. waivers for fish and other aquatic pets.

Thank you Panther for paying me the extra 50 miles I incurred due to flooding!

Yes it was! I informed them of the situation before getting to the border. An hour later I received a QC message stating I would get paid for the extra 50 miles of detour.

Great road report Moot! Loved the pics too! Brought the kids to show them too because that is where Grandma and Grandpa live!

Great pics. Guess pontoons are now going to be standard equipment in the expiditors survival packet.

Lawrence, I hope Grandma and Grandpa are high and dry. Well dry anyway. It's hard to find any high ground in that neighborhood. Sounds like Morris is still under water. If it doesn't dry out soon the cowboys will be riding seahorses and roping dolphins at the rodeo. Did you grow up around there?

Moot...and OV...Yes, I actually grew up in Winnipeg ( the city of Bachman Turner Overdrive BTO, Burton Cummings, Guess Who, Crash Test Dummies and yes, Monty Hall!!). Or as we affectionally call it...Whip-an-Egg!

"Go to" guys tend to stay busy and not lose their contracts when things slow down.......

Thanks Jeff, but go to guys that aren't total brownnosers tend to get the boot. I'm on thin ice.

Pelcin thank you for taking the effort to do some research. I threw that out figuring most wouldn't get it. A lot of what I post is for my own sick self amusement. Sure beats the chance of going blind at my own hand. Anyway I had some weird ideas of going totally prehistoric with this flood stuff and getting a bit bizarre but thought it might be lost on most members. I also had some great stuff to post on the Helen Massom thing but it turned somewhat personal and I engaged the self-moderation jake brake. Oh well, there is always masturbation.

Lawrence, Winnipeg is a cool city. It has a diverse population (I can't believe I typed that) but it seems real rather than some contrived notion of diversity. Also the flood control project seems to be doing its thing! The odd angle streets and random names remind me of St. Paul, MN. Rue de quaint.

Have you ever been to the Winnipeg Folk Festival? Something I would like to catch, but never seem to get there in July.

Winnipeg is a nice place to visit, especially when getting paid. But I would not want to live there. Minneapolis is getting difficult to deal with in my old age. Bah humbug!

Not only that but I did both Red River Valleys in the same week. Border to border, kinda!
