OK, so who do you think should be Presidential Debate Moderators?
Why not have a lottery drawing from ordinary US citizens? Let ordinary people moderate the debates?
Oh ok. Turtle and I will do it. lol
Both of you would be acceptable to me. Someone like Joe the Plumber or a lottery draw from ordinary US citizens would be something to consider. Anyone who has attended a White House Correspondents dinner would be disqualified. The unseemly relationship between presidential contenders and upper echelon news anchors is just too flagrant. Let the common man and woman be at the heart of the process.

.
Because if you do that, the debates will be unmoderated free-for-alls. You have to look at how moderators handle pressure in real time, how they think on their feet. There is a very fine art to mastering the material, moving in real-time while a producer is in your ear, and having the confidence to tell presidential candidates they’re over time or not answering the question. That takes a lot of skill, and the people best-suited to do thar are people with experience. Without it, in real time, moderators are taking a significant risk of letting things get out of control, which is a disservice to the American people and the candidates.

I understand the elites do not want the plebes anywhere near the democratic process. It frightens them. Maybe I have more respect for the average man or woman in that a high school principal or a fireman or an emergency room nurse could manage a debate with dignity and decorum. Sure, it might not be the choreographed performances we are accustomed to seeing, but it would be real. The producers and directors could sit down quietly and watch. Let the people who have to live with the election results be involved at every level. We haven't been well served by the celebrated news specialists in a long time.

They have something close. Let folks ask questions via the web, and the actual moderator s ask them. That controls the debate and gets the questions out.
