I don't have a problem with drilling on the Great Lakes...I've done some myself.

Ok, OVM, Back to family based programing. As I said, Canada can is and will continue to drill Lake Erie. Snippet below, entire like under it.

In 2006 there were 92 commercial oil and gas producers in Ontario. There were 1,045 active oil wells 1275 active natural gas wells and 158 wells which report production of both oil and natural gas. 513 of the gas wells were located offshore on Crown land under Lake Erie and 18 wells drilled horizontally beneath Lake Erie from onshore locations produced both oil and natural gas from Crown lands.

Never said there wasn't any..but look at these pewny numbers..

Production from Ontario's crude oil and natural gas reservoirs accounts for approximately 1% of Ontario's annual domestic consumption of crude oil and 2% of Ontario's annual domestic consumption of natural gas. All of Ontario's crude oil and natural gas production is consumed within Ontario. About 125,000 cubic meters of crude oil with a wellhead value of $57 million was produced in Ontario in 2006. This is enough to provide fuel for 27,000 cars and 2200 transport vehicles annually

From same article....

Imagine that..a whole 27,000 cars and 2200 trucks for a year...BIG deal...I wish they weren;t offshore for the "oil"

Yes, pewny for now, they are expanding that work as we speak. They are NOT being all the careful either. Like I said before. Many of those well heads are in shallow enough water that small boat can and have hit them. They are NOT marked.

I read that about old and abandoned well from the 50's...it is against the law..they should be reported...

BUT seeing they are there...and I'd imagine there are US and Can drilling companies working together...they could just run some pipes to the south..and use existing infrastructure to expand...and I did read...there is no real jobs after the wells are pumping...most is automated....

They are there, LOTS of them. The point being is that ALL the Great Lakes are already being drilled for oil. Both on the U.S. and Canadian sides. The idea is to do all we can to insure that it is done as safely as possible.

OVM, there are a lot of jobs after the well is up and running, from maintainance to refining jobs. We have Marathon expanding downriver to handle shale oil (*cough from Canada) but if we can expand it more to handle lake crude, then that means more jobs.

In addition if Canada would stop send us garbage, that can be converted into gas through a process being used over here, Standard Oil has been doing it for years and it works well.

The job thing is not just about people working either, it keeps the trucks moving into and out of the state which means more work for you and E-1.

Natural gas is a renewable resource. We are not doing all we can to exploit that fact. We are using some of the gas but not nearly all that is available. There is much we can be doing. Politics is the problem.

You mean methane in the bold...???

Well tell your Governor to quit buying the garbage!!

Canadian garbage is creating jobs for you...gee whiz...

Yep, just rippin you guys off for years!! They use a lot of the gas produced at the project in Riverview at that auto plant where they make the Mustangs. I worked on that landfill when I was in high school.

Trash is a wonderful source of energy. We need to look at it harder. So is our sewage. We could be getting methane off of that.

Go for it!! the pansy liberals tree huggers didn't want it burned any more and they got the government to shut them down..now they are in a real pickle...now the government is saying opps..we should not have gave in...a lousy 10 million and them incinerators would have been upgraded to comply...now it costs mega millions to truck it out...

Yep, Canada PAYS us to bury the trash. We make money. We have jobs. The trash decays, produces methane. We convert the methane into other more usable gasses. Like Natural Gas. We have jobs. We sell the gas. We make money. That gas burns clean. Sounds good to me.

No problem for me on this issue. Just do not like drilling for oil on the lakes.:(

They already are. Have been for years. Most of the drilling is in Canadian water but they have drilled in the U.S. as well. It may be too late to stop it. We must do more to insure the safety of it. I doubt if it ever goes away.

Oh BOY what jobs? We have Canadian driver coming here, driving like they need to get back over the border before the Indians get them and we have ten guys running the dump - big whoop.

How about 30 or so people who live and work here in a crew working one oil rig?

How many can be sitting in the lakes?

Then we have the support people, like the local truck drivers and the welders, pipe fitters and so on. God just the construction jobs alone could be over 1000.

Oh let's not forget the fuel used to do all of this, the state gets taxes from it.

By the way we could produce more garbage in this state to make up for any losses by the Canadian garbage IF we have people working and buying stuff to throw away. The company who handles it will make the same amount of money with ours as with theirs, the loss to the US government may be a problem (custom tolls). The real problem is we are not producing what we should in garbage because everyone left the state and those of us who are left here can't find the light switch to turn off the light, so we are stuck here.
