The governor of California, Jerry Brown, has signed into law legislation allowing illegal immigrants to receive state aid to attend college.

Supporters of the California Dream Act, as it is called, say it will benefit the state economically.

However, critics argue that it condones entry into the US without proper documentation.

About 2,500 students are expected to qualify for grants under the new legislation.

Governor Brown, a Democrat, said the law would benefit the state by giving top students a chance to improve their lives and, he said, "the lives of all of us".

But, in a state with a huge immigrant population, critics say the law encourages the illegal immigration by granting access to state resources previously reserved for legal residents.

Opponents of the law add that it should not have been passed without major overhaul of America's immigration rules.

California's last governor, the Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, refused to sign the legislation.

Good to see California got out of their financial trouble so now they can send illegals to college. I like how they try to give people the idea it is to help the best and the brightest by saying it will help the "top students". The reality is that a lot of money will be stolen through this program and who knows where it will go.

Unless Brown has inside knowledge that Obama is about to fast track these illegals to being legal and citizenship to vote...I can't see what there is to gain in it for him...politicians seem to serve themselves...

I don't know about dream act crap, there is a problem with many of these invaders who are not US citizens not getting jobs when they can't produce proper ID or proof of citizenship.

The other interesting thing is does it really matter, kids born to US citizens can't get the aid to begin with as much as one who comes here as an invader.

Oh I heard this one last night, maybe we need to start charging the parents who bring their kids here with kidnapping.

Trolling for votes. Next step, US citizenship will NOT be needed to vote in US elections. As long as you vote for Obama and Co.

Don't worry about California paying for this, they will raise OUR taxes to cover it. More welfare crap.

California should be banished from the Country. It belongs in Soviet Russia.

Did some idiotic republican senator and a republican president try to push through the right for invaders to become citizens?

I don't think Obama is doing as well of a job with border enforcement as say ... Bush.

Obama is the Putz there now. The buck stops with him. IF he is voted out and IF he accepts that fact, the next PUTZ will take the heat. You know better than that, I cannot stand EITHER party. NEITHER of them are worth their weight in dead maggots.
