Had a kidney stone attack back in 2003, at 3 AM. Pain so bad I thought I was having an aneurysm in the abdominal artery (a condition that could be fatal if not addressed immediately). Off to the ER, where after an injection into my IV the pain "magically" went away. :D

Had to pass that sucker!!

What I remember most is the nurse who told me that she also had had a kidney stone, as well as a couple babies. Her exact words were "this is as close as you, a mere male, will ever come to the pain of childbirth". For some reason, my wife thought that comment was funny

An Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm also known as a AAA isn't to bad unless it ruptures. If it ruptures you have about 90 seconds before you are done.

Had the stint removed, and that was fun...Nurse-"Here is me cleanning you, Here I'm inserting this long tube to insert some good stuff that will make it easy, here I am putting on a clamp to keep that good stuff in there."

Here, I am thinking I should run!

Doc came in, went right to work. I was able to watch it on the flat screen for about a second..... after "playing around" in there, he managed to pull out the stint. For two days I passed sand and small stones. Had a off day yesterday, no sand, stones and no pain pills.... Started passing round two or three of sand today, no stones yet.

I really don't know why they do not put you out for the removal of that stint!

But go ahead women, laugh away....

Every time a read one of your updates my legs involuntarily squeeze together and I hunch forward. I can't begin to imagine the pain you are going through. Hang in there Eddie, this too shall pass.

Four days without passing anything....until last night and today. Back on pain meds, and passing sand and a little larger stones. I guess all that running around yesterday got'em moving. Water, coffee, cranberry juice until 1400. Then beer and water if I can stay off the meds. If not, then water and anything else I can drink.

Wife always ask me "How you feel today?" No matter the answer she follows up with, "And when are you going back to work?" I tell her, sometime before July, or when ever I get done passing the sand pit...

At least I have a reason to take off most of this winter. :)

Bad news. Beer may be off your menu. Caffine too. After 29 stones surgically removed, and others passed in various rest areas around out great country,I got in a kidney stone prevention program at The University of Chicago. There are life choices to be made. When I was younger I had a stone crushed Fri and pulled a baffless tank of acid to NJ onSat morning, stent inserted. You just move slower. When I got too old to put on a brave face I really started paying attention. Eddie, beer and caffine dry the urine, allowing solids to collect and form stones. Cause I get oxylate stones I also gave up nuts, iced tea, chocolate, lots of green veggies, and some meats. PM me if you ever get gout, it's like stones in your feet. Good luck. Any day without a stone is a good day .

Moot, if we ever meet I'll tell you stone stories that will bring tears to your eyes! Advice to all drivers. When you need to pee, stop and pee. Holding it helped me form stones . Probably Eddie too.

I don't know how much more I can pee.... I drink over a case of water (24 20oz bottles), each week while I'm on the road and have to stop a lot. I use to hold it in for hours, think I peed twice a day when I was younger. Which was bad and hard to make myself go. Now with heavey pee, you have to go or bust. As far as the beer drying out.... One beer= 8oz water, no drying there, same with coffee. Both make you pee more, and keeps you happy. Yep keep the kidney's flushed out.

Sounds like we both try to follow the "rules", but we keep getting stones. May have to try the lemon thing..... Not so sure if it works, but when you are in pain you will try anything.

I used to save my vacation for my annual fall stone episode. Since I got in the program only two stones in maybe ten years. The first I may have had when I entered the program. Once the Dr told me to drink MORE water. I replied I DRINK A GALLON PER DAY ! He replied TRY TWO ! Through the years they've tweaked the diet. Less sodium. Avoid alcohol and caffine. 8 oz of meat per day max. No organ meats. I gave up my gallon a day of iced tea cold turkey. Alcohol too. Once you start getting up to 5 stones at once, stones months apart you'll figure hell the beer isn't worth it. Sure I miss beer with pizza. What's better than VO& water with perch. I've conditioned myself not to miss them. I do not miss having stones.

Just did the math on your water intake. You're at the minimum safe level. Drink more water and you won't have room for coffee or beer. Soda, root beer, Dr Pepper, and clear sodas are safer for your condition.

Between the water there is a lot of juice's and 7-up in there too. Gonna make a batch of Apple Pie Moonshine soon and try that...lol

My first stone.1984, in emergency room on guerney. Nurse comes by and says "you're feeling pretty good, huh ?" I replied"No lady, I'm dying. It feels like someone took a red-hot fireplace poker and rammed it in my back." She got a horrified look on her face and whispered "I gave you enough morphine to kill a horse !" she turned and yellowed "get him a room, he's staying." thus started a 2 week hospital stay, surgery, a 6 month recovery and years of a life where many of life's decision's were based on what's best for the stones ! AHH, memories !
