I was parked in Lebanon, NH ..... behind a MCDoanald's ...... across the street and down the hill from me was a major shopping center, Penny's CVS, Staples, Pier 1, etc ..... in less than 30 minutes that entire parking lot became a lake and water is into the stores .....

I went down the street a bit and spoke with a cop, the river is forecast to rise one foot per hour until 8am, 10 hours away ..... this place is going to be destroyed!

Luckily I was "up the hill" from the flooding ....

I decided to move ..... for fear of being trapped in the morning .... but I already was! I had to take back roads to another entrance to the Interstate, the one where I was had already been flooded!

Found me a fuel pump, topped off the tank, just in case there are power outages, (and there will be) ..... all good now ... I'm up "on the hill" several hundred feet above the river ...... what a mess!

If you are headed into the northeast .... call ahead! Roads are closed everywhere, and towns are under water ...

At the risk of stating the obvious, you did some good thinking. Some people get thrown off their game and lose their heads when crisis situations develop. Some will drive toward the water instead of away from it.

Monday morning update:

I-91 southbound is closed at Bellows Falls, Vt, fireman here says the bridges on I-91 need to be inspected now Rt5 is also closed and only New Hampshire Rt 12 is open going south .... but ... the river bridge to NH is also closed! Can you spell cluster ****?

Any deliveries coming this way better be checked for ability to deliver!

What seems to be the verdict on impact? Did we dodge a bullet in that there wasn't far more catastrophicdamage?

What kind of impact will it have on our industry? Will the road closures affectdeliveriesor willthose receiving goods normally in those affected areas not be operational to accept goods?

Catastrophic?.....if it was your house or your business that got washed away...it would be catastrophic to you....

Many businesses still have no power, they'll be cleaning up and NOT producing...
Some employees will lose hours of work....which will effect the spending power...even the lose of 1 days pay could be very damaging to some that have been struggling to tread water so to speak...

I realize that there are real impacts financially to people, I meant that it wasn't catastrophic in the sense that luckily we didn't see thousands die like in Katrina. Houses can be rebuilt, w can't rebuild those lives lost.

Sorry I wasn't more clear with my words, it's hard to be elaborate on my phone.

I am sorry too...I was just splitting hairs...pulling a Greg...LOL

without the evacuations and add another 20 mph to the landfall..the bodies might have been piling up....

I'm at home-been watching the weather channel all week-have family in vt. Unbelivable the mess, towns are cut off, roads gone, the river is still raging, I don't know if it's crested yet. and all that water is traveling down the ct. river and will dump into the L.I. sound, and other tributaries.

Hope you stay safe and get out out of there, wish the compianies would be proactive and keep an eye on the happinings before sending the drivers in to that area.

Yes, I got out ... here is Friday night until Tuesday night trip, might be an interesting read for some ......

Friday night I was home, had finished dinner and cleaning up the mess, phone rings ...

"Monty, do you want a load to Wotton, Pq?"

It loaded in Indy with an additional pickup in Buffalo at the airport at 12:30 Saturday. Rate was good, and I was just back from vacation, so I took it.

Everything went smoothly until after I had delivered and headed back down to Vermont. After the Sunday night entertainment in Lebanon, Nh I went on down I-91 to just north of Bellows Falls, Vt where I spent the rest of Sunday night.

Monday morning I try to head south, found I-91 closed and detoured to Rt5 .... then found Rt 5 closed, detoured to Rt 12 back over in New Hampshire.

Made it to Greenfield, Ma where I once more found I-91 closed. And Rt 5 was also closed, so I went west on Rt 2 into the mountains, figuring I would take Rt 112 south to Rt 116 back to I-91.

Wrong ....... Rt 112 was also closed. I called the Mass State Police, was informed that road was now open, but be very cautious, as the road was washed out in some places. Brother, was it ever! (Thank God I had a van, even a ST could not have made it.) That area had 11-12 inches of rain in just a few hours, it was a mess!

Ok, now I'm down to Northhampton, Ma when the phone rings, (remember I've been at this all day getting clear of obstacles), "Monty, I have a load in Wilton, Nh going to Appleton, Wi .. 1,000 miles ... delivers tomorrow".

Sigh ... I take it and go back into NH, but not as far north as the floods. Get loaded and head off.

Being I'm the smart one, I take the Mass Pike over to the Thruway and south to I-84 ...... wrong!

Seems a semi had ran over a car southbound, traffic moving at 5mph for 5-6 miles ..... ok, clear of that, "Hammer down"!

wtf did that sign say? "Thruway closed at Exit 17."

Ok, no problem that is my exit anyway .... and ... the exit for everyone else o the Thruway!

10 mile back up there .....

I finally make it down to Newburgh, (with low fuel light on), get fuel and a shower and head west ....

The delivery I had was originally scheduled for delivery at 1pm Tuesday, I bumped that to 3pm .... and then finally delivered it at 7pm!

The trip from hell was over! I was a zombie! I'm too old for this nonsense, let the young turks have it! :D

Went to bed last night, slept 9 straight hours!

(Now where's that load to Laredo, might as well keep the trip from hell in play!)

Left Monday morning from Moberly Mo to Truin NY (NE of Syracuse). When I entered NY on the thruway, big sign, Thruway closed after exit 34A. I needed to get to 33. Pulled over took a 1hr nap. Got to the cash box in Buffalo, yippie, thruway just opened both direction. On 12D, you could see some residual effect, for the most part in that area, the water had receded.

I grew up in Boonville, if you come back down 12 stop at Capri Pizzeria, best pizza or calzone anywhere.
