It's Jan 2 and I thought we would be busy....

I thought the day after the holiday would be screaming with companies realizing they need stuff in a rush. So much for my thoughts. We have been in Atlanta since thurs. One good offer that we didn't get and one that was not so good that we dumped. Guess I was way off to think we would be busy. Have a less than 75 and there are 3 more ahead of us with the same. Hope the New Year starts rockin' soon. "wake up America" we need more freight. Guess I should have sent dispatch some milk and cookies. They need the energy to keep up with all the calls they surly are getting, (or not). Checked around the country and the Fed is slow today, hope everyone else is running their wheels off. They said there would be some changes after the 1st of the year. Hope this is not one of them.

Most companies are off today because New years fell on a Sunday. It takes a few days for companies to start calling in expedited freight again.

As Dave said, With New Years falling on sunday, today is the "recognized" holiday by the unions and comoanies and everyone is closed..union contracts and non union companies trying to keep employees happy and giving the day off because the unions dicate it...

Thursday and Friday were the days when you might have got lucky and got a load. Today's chances were only slightly better than sat and sun which were very close to zero.

And thats why we kidnapped a certain expediter on saturday to go visit a friend and then kicking and screaming to Beale....

The first couple of years we stayed out over holidays.
Now we stay home over Easter, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and from Christmas through New Years.
Although there is some freight we would rather enjoy these holidays at home rather than sit for 4-5 days in a truck stop.

It was good seeing all of you. Happy you got "the star" talked into coming along. I'm amazed he made it through a night on Beale

What's the best part? I can stay home now until he gets out of Memphis...lol. No need for me to be in service till he's gone..lol.

Dude... seriously? Beale was cool, but really, it's Bourbon St. lite. Clearly though, it was the most fun I've had on New Years Eve in years.

I sure hope I'm not in your way for long.

I've been doing this 5 years and January has always been slow. It will be slow till around May if the pattern holds true.

Last January was my 1st with Load 1, if this January is as good as the last 1, ill be happy...and the 2 January's at my previous carriers weren't all that bad....and i can tell you for sure, business for me has never been slow from January to May...I guess it all depends on each of us and your work habits and the carriers we are with....

It all comes into play, your carrier, your type of truck, your qualifications, your work habits. Combine them all and you still have no idea how business will go!

January is normally good for us. February and March slow as it the first part of April. Except when they are good!

One thing we have noticed is that weeks with a holiday in them are more than likely going to be slow. At least they have been for us for the past 6 years.

We talked with two different white glove teams and both mentioned that they were told that some changes were coming the 1st of the year. I assumed it was more flat rate changes than anything.

Don't want to spread more rumors so I will shut up at this time.

Be sure to be careful when talking with other drivers while on the road. Believe or not they are not always right! Some even like to stir up trouble by starting rumors. We will be told of any real changes through official channels. Will there be changes this year? Likely. Then again, there are always changes going on.

Curious about changes too. 11 am pickup in a large express center. Checked in and sleeping 16 miles from pickup. At 06:20 I get a critical check-out message. This was a change I was hoping was coming. I guess not yet .
