How do you inflict trauma on a story that seems to be falde, what about the damage to incentives rrputsyoons? That's a no pardon o on of not flowing basic journalist rules.
Let me guess: your mobile device translated your words into Android?
Ok, I agree: Erdely is guilty of a huge error in judgment. Given the circs, though, [a supposed rape victim] I can see her reluctance to push for more detail, [like the actual names of those involved, which "Jackie" claimed she was afraid to reveal, and Erdely says she was stupid to settle for that. I agree.] and the thing is, her 'fact checker' [and the fact checker's supervisor] and the legal department didn't demand it, either. That's what I mean by a systemic failure: more than just one person responsible.
Just firing Erdely would look like they are blaming it all on her, which wouldn't be fair, or do much for their own image, either.
It's a wake up call to all in the field of journalism and publishing: facts matter, and lies will come back and bite you, every time.
